With Lionsgate's Saw IV (cips/trailers) less than a week away we've got a few random interviews to share with you guys, starting with star Scott Patterson. Inside you can read about his experience on set, with Darren Bousman and how he missed out on a role in Repo! The Genetic Opera. SAW IV hits theaters everywhere on October 26.
Patterson talked to B-D about getting the call to do SAW IV, "My manager called me and said the producers had contacted her and wanted to meet with me and then the director, Darren Bousman met with me, I had lunch with him in LA and we got to know each other," he continues, "there was no script at the time, he was trying to see if I was right for the role and we had a really nice getting-to-know-you session. It lasted a couple hours and we hit it off, and we're both quirky in different ways and it felt like it would all work and I liked his passion and vision for the film and then they made a three-picture offer and I was blown away."
He also chatted a bit about the light atmosphere on the "Saw" set and not being able to do REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA, which is now looking to be one of the most anticipated films of 2008, "[SAW IV was the] most fun I've ever had on a set. Darren is just fun to work with. I was so disappointed that REPO! didn't work out because I really wanted to be in that film and it just did not work out, the scheduling did not work out. I think I found my director, that's kind of how I felt, when I was doing "SAW," because I was so comfortable with him and we just had a shorthand, we didn't have to say much to each other. I knew what he wanted, he knew what I was about to ask, it was a very… creatively, we're both pretty twisted individuals and we like to take risks and explore the outer edges of where a character could go."
And let's not forget to help another director get a big head, Patterson also chatted about the genius of Darren Bousman as a director, "Not to belabor the point about how much fun it was to work with Darren, but he's the boss over there. The beautiful thing about his directing style is he exudes a tremendous amount of creative energy," he continues, "He exudes purpose, he has a very clear vision for what he wants but he's not an asshole about getting it. He gets it because you're caught up in it and you're excited to give it to him. Another thing that's great about him is he listens to ideas. If you have an idea, he'll listen to it and if he thinks it's better than what his vision is, he'll incorporate it. He's completely open about it. I was just blown away by how accessible he was. He was totally accessible and he's got a million things going on on that set that have to be satisfied, script-wise, they just have to be. He's got a million people coming at him and he's just a very, very good leader. Let me tell you something, he is definitely the boss, but he rules with a very light hand. You know you're in good hands and you know he's going to listen to some ideas. It's just terrific and nobody really ever takes advantage of him because he's so open and so fair. He makes everybody feel good. He creates an environment where you can do your best work, he really does. He's incredibly patient, a very generous director, a very giving director. So, none of the ego, yelling crap, it was just a fantastic experience." - KARA WARNER
