The remake to end all remakes? That's sort of how I feel about Dimension's Helraiser, which will be helmed by French geniuses Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury (Inside). Funny enough, today Playboy landed an interview with our ex-Pinhead, Doug Bradley, who chatted about remakes and his hopeful involvement in the remake. Read on for the skinny.
"I have no idea whether anybody intends I will be involved in it, but I will do it again like a shot," he continues, "If it involved taking different beats with Pinhead, that would also be fine by me. I think there are lots of areas that we never looked and never went to. History is not on my side with remakes that don't intend to use original cast. You know, if it's going to happen, it's going to happen — and I wish it absolutely nothing but good, if I'm involved or not."
Released in 1987, "Hellraiser" told the story of an unfaithful wife who attempts to assist her dead lover in his escape from hell. The movie introduced viewers to a race of demons called Cenobites, most notably one nicknamed Pinhead -- who became one of the most enduring horror characters of the decade -- who was summoned using an antique puzzle box.
Doug Bradley is Pinhead. That's it. No one can replace him. He has the voice and the face. Only Myers, Jason, Leatherface, etc can get away with it (due to masks). Pushing Doug out of the role would be a grave mistake.
i agree totally with AftertheAsylum, to not keep Doug as pinhead would be the biggest mistake ever. I know most of the hellraiser fans would stay away from the remake just on this sole fact that you cannot replace him.
i'm not against mr. bradley being in the remake but i would like to see a fresh take on the material, also if they stick closer to the hellbound heart story the character of pinhead or the closest character resembleing pinhead is a female cenobite and i think that would be a very interesting take on an icon that they are trying to re-imagine.
