Xavier Gens Pulled Off Fox's 'Hitman' Project?

We're not covering Hitman here on B-D because, well, it's a movie about a Hitman. But some disturbing news his the web this evening that we really wanted to share with you. Rumor has it that Director Xavier Gens - who will see his first feature film Frontier(s) in theaters this November - has been pulled off the project after showing his cut of the film, according to Twitch. The reason why? You're going to get a kick out of this, read on for the skinny.

From Twich Film:

"While there has been no official word on this so far I’m hearing it from enough sources very close to the film itself and the principals involved that I’m quite confident reporting it as fact. Word is out that Fox has yanked control of upcoming video game adaptation away from director Xavier Gens. This happens from time to time if a director turns in weak footage but that is not the case here. After being hired to shoot an adaptation of the ultra-violent video game Gens took Asian action films such as The Killer and A Bittersweet Life as his starting point and turned in an explicitly violent, very bloody cut of the film that apparently included a number of head shots and extreme gore moments that would have guaranteed the film a hard R rating. Which really shouldn’t have been any sort of surprise if the studio execs had been paying any attention at all - it’s not like they wouldn’t have seen the dailies or effects work ahead of time - but apparently after seeing Gens’ cut of the film the studio removed him from the project and placed Nicolas De Toth in control of a new edit of the film. Who’s De Toth? He’s the man behind the edit of Live Free Or Die Hard, a job he was hired for specifically to turn in an entirely bloodless version of the film and word is that this is his task with Hit Man as well. So what are we going to get? A bloodless version of the film assembled with no input whatsoever from Gens. Very sad considering just how promising the trailers have been so far."

Damn! Being a fan of the game, I was looking forward to this film. Now it sounds as though were getting a watered down version ala' Live free, Die hard. My interest just dropped considerably.

What the hell does that mean. You are not covering this movie because its a movie about a hitman. That doesnt make any sense. They better release the bloody version if they want a kick ass movie. People seem to be such pussies. The movie is supposed to be violent. Its called Hitman, not The Nanny.

Video Games have never translated well into movies. I'm being polite. Films based on video games suck ass 1000% of the time. Whatever hope this game-to-film project may have had was drug back down into the shit-pit kicking and screaming. Hitman has no right being a good film, even it's makers seem to want to make sure of that.

ZombieCrazy, this site is for the horror genre, thus BD doesn't cover crap-action flicks made for ass-clowns.

I wonder if producers intentionally pull this sort of thing solely for the purpose of promoting their "unrated and uncensored" DVD crap.

Okay I never do this because I dwell to much into this. But it really pisses me the hell off. Why> well maybe you should leave the fuckin movies alone, stop beining a bunch of pussies.... don't watch the fuckin movie then. It's not hard. But don't go ruining something that could be good. I hate it when they do that. i really do. I say FUCK FOX FUCK HOLLYWOOD AND FUCK THE MPAA for runining movies that could of been better. Okay so big deal its blood. you see more blood on the fuckin news of the Iraq war then you would in the movies. So grow some balls and do somethign better on your times instead of down sizing art. thats all.... I'm pissed. oh yeah FOX one more thing go play the videogame you fuckin cock peasents. and after that sick through some violent movies like SAW... oh no wait you can't do that. Go watch leave it to beaver ASSHOLES

This is bullshit! What the FUCK is wrong with Fox?!?! It pissed me off enough with the crap they pulled with LIVE FREE DIE HARD, which I refused to see because of...and now this!? I was really looking forward to this film...the video game is ultraviolent, as the film should be too. Screw Fox.

It's so sad when this happens. It's simply because the studio are more concerned with finances than creative vision. People will see this film despite the reviews (the reason that there's been a trilogy of Resident Evil movies now...) and if cutting the movie to shreds ensures a wider demographic then the studio will be more than happy to tear it to shreds.

Hi Everyone, I discover your news about the new film of Xavier. I'm French, and I know Xavier Gens. It's just a bad rumor on the editing. The PG13 has made in last August with XAVIER. Because, the movie was very violence for the campaign of FOX. (Sorry for my english) It's very bizarre to read it now! The movie is finished and Xavier is always present. So, Xavier is always on this film. And this film will be a PG 13. The R will be presend (we hope) on the future DVD. Have a great moment during the 8 films to die for Fest, Frontieres is awesome! Cant wait to see Frontiers - great to know there's a director with balls out there big enough to stand up to the MPAA - but this material is brutal, especially in these times. To mix its content with realiastic, over the top injury is pushing tabooisms to the limit... not surprised. Fox just watered this bad boy down to the point of no interest tho. Now theyre wasting their money. Serves them right.

Even if it won't do much, it's still necessary... http://www.petitiononline.com/HitmanR/petit ion.html

God damn the Fox studio to the farthest reaches of Hell! Leave it to @$$ hole producers in suits who know nothing about how to make a movie to tear a director's vision away. They did it with Die Hard and they're doing it again. "Excuse me, morons! You're making movies based on hardcore, R-rated material! Damn you for trying to water it down for the kitties."
