One of my buddies said it best tonight when he said "Kevin Smith is so ten years ago" - an obvious exaggeration - but kind of on point. Seen his new show Reaper yet? Yeah. Anyway, Smith was prepping a horror film for the Weinstein brothers entitled Red State and had turned in a draft a few weeks back - they passed. Smith has done everything with the dynamic duo... until now. What comes next? Read on for details.

Naturally, this makes me wanna make “RED STATE” even more than I did just prior to that phone call. I get excited thinking about having to raise financing for our hot potato of a flick. This represents a turning point of sorts for Scott and I, inasmuch as everything (with the exception of “MALLRATS”) has been made with the Weinsteins. It might be nice to see if we can get something done without them. Whether it’ll be nice or not, however, it’s what’s in the cards, as they don’t feel the flick is very commercial. And, in truth, on the surface, it may not be - unless we get the buzz I think we’ll get off the festival circuit. Regardless, it’s not something we’ll have to think about ’til after we’re done with “ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO.”
Watch for more updates as they come in, but I'd still put this one out of your mind for now.
RED STATE is a horror film in which a group of misfits encounter fundamentalism gone to the extreme in Middle America.
To be fair, Kevin Smith's involvement with the TV show "Reaper" is limited to him directing the Pilot episode. He has nothing to do with the show aside from that.
The show was created by Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters and is executive produced by the duo under Touchtone TV.
It's too bad they didn't pick this up. A movie like this would show how much ability Kevin really has as a director. I'm sure they'll get it produced elsewhere.
Yeah Spock.... he's done. Since ya know.. he starts his new film.. "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" in the next 2 months and Red State will be made, maybe not by Bob and Harvey, but it'll be made. Kevin is far from done, infact, he'll be around for along time.
