i rented this twice when i was little and my parents stole it both times and returned it. i finally saw it years later and JoeViturbo is right, it's worthy of a watch but it's nothing spectacular. the scene with the mother at the end still creeps me out though.

I have to say, "Last House on the Left" is a guilty pleasure movie. Not saying that I like the idea of gang rape or anything.....I think that the movie struck a chord for the era it was made and it was a pretty controversial movie. The last scene with the parents is my favorite.

Very ordinary and overrated, since it was banned here at one stage i expected it to be far more brutal but it was weak and the dumb ass cops pissed me off.

yeah, those cops ruined the movie. However, I still enjoyed it. It's worth a watch, but as mentioned in an earlier post, I wouldnt recommend buying it - unless you see it for an unbeatable price, of course.

The MGM DVD is $10, it doesn't get much cheaper than that.

Anyway, I find the film a classic. David Hess plays one of the screens ultimate sleazebags. The film is very mean-spirited (when the dumb-ass cops aren't around) and I think it still holds up today. I'd be willing to bet considering the subject matter that the film today would still get an NC-17. It's definitely not gory or scary, but it isn't meant to be either. It has alot of bite with the rape/torture/humiliation scenes as it is. You will never see a film play your local multi-plexes today with extended rape scenes like that.

I'd recommend anyone who liked the film check out the recently released Criterion DVD of The Virgin Spring. That is the film that inspired the story for Last House on the Left and is a classic in it's own right. Way ahead of it's time. It stars the venerable Max von Sydow.
