They need new writers because the first two films were not written by people who knew much about the Trek universe

That's for sure.

Rick Berman needs to be writing the movies.

Rick Berman is the antichrist of the Trek universe, he drove the bus into the lake. He wrote some decent episodes back in the day but under his leadership all the films have been horribly written and have gotten further and further away from Roddenberry's vision. If Gene could see what the cheap action sci-fi that Trek has become he'd be spinning in his grave.

It might sound like I hate the movies, I don't, they are very entertaining but all have been written by a chimp, full of plot holes, bad character changes and relying on big budget action to carry stories.

I can agree with most of that! All though you cannot deny TOS is extremely and utterly cheesy and that was with Gene at the helm.

The only reason I said Rick is because Gene enlisted him to help create TNG and he of course went on to do DS9 and Voyager plus help out with the movies.

If you want someone who butchered Gene's work go over to Robert Wolfe even though I enjoyed some of his episodes on DS9 and even Andromeda.

True but I'm a TNG guy, the TOS is second to that imo however I don't think the Original episodes were seen as cheesy back when they first aired just in later years

Oh that's for sure my old man absolutely ate it up with a spoon as a kid seeing the original run.

All though I think some of the episodes even people in the 60's were thinking cheese.

Mostly the Tribbles episode
