Default Vacation (Reboot)

Chris Hemsworth ("Thor" movies, upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron) and Charlie Day ("It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," upcoming Horrible Bosses 2) are joining New Line Cinema and Warner Bros.' Vacation reboot, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Ed Helms will play Rusty Griswold in the comedy, while Christina Applegate will appear as his wife. Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo are set to make cameos. John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein wrote the script and are making their directorial debut.

The new version of the vacation adventures of the quirky dad and his family will follow Rusty, who now has his own family misadventures on the road.

Hemsworth will reportedly play the husband of Rusty’s sister, Audrey (a role that has not been cast), while Day is expected to cameo as a river rafting guide.

Chris Bender, David Dobkin, Jeff Kleeman are producing. Filming is scheduled to start in September.

I'm happy that they'll be using Rusty and his family instead of remaking the thing with Clark as the father of the family. I think it can work. I'm expecting Rusty to be just like Clark, but that makes sense because he'll want to have his family share the same experiences that Clark gave him, his sister, and Ellen on their family vacations.

It sounds like a pretty cool project. Vacation for the next generation with Russ taking over the Griswold family shenanigans. Good times!

Agreed! They could have really cheaped out on direct to DVD stuff but it sounds like they're gonna make them pretty big movies.

I'm on the fence about this... but it is cool that Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo are gonna have cameos.

Let's see if Chris Hemsworth can deliver comedy...

Regina Hall (Think Like a Man, About Last Night) and Keegan-Michael Key ("Key & Peele") have both joined the cast of Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema's now-in-production sequel/reboot, Vacation. Variety has the news, reporting that the pair will play the heads of an idyllic family that are friends with the Griswolds.

Hall and Key join Ed Helms, Christina Applegate, Chris Hemsworth, Charlie Day, Skyler Gisondo, Steele Stebbins, Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo in the Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley film.

I'm curious as to why the word reboot keeps getting used in relation to this film? Established characters are returning and with original actors continuing a established storyline from previous films... that's called a sequel.

I'm not entirely against this movie, the story sounds fine and I'm thrilled that Beverly and Chevy are on board but what in the name of John Hughes is Ed Helms doing in this film playing Rusty?!? That dude has all the comedic talent and charisma of Jackie Mason (and that's not a compliment, see Caddyshack 2) his turn in the Hangover films were ok because he was like a third fiddle but I can't see him even remotely carrying his own project.
Anthony Michael Hall was all booked up? Because it would be awesome to see him return for the role imo
