Filming is now officially underway in New York for the sequel to last years hit film.

Columbia Pictures announced today that filming has begun on The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2 in New York. The film is the first in the history of the franchise that will be filmed entirely in New York City and New York State.


The sequel to last year’s critical and box office hit The Amazing Spider-Man, the film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, and Sally Field.


In The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.


The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci & Jeff Pinkner, with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt, and based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are the producers.


The film’s key behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Dan Mindel, production designer Mark Friedberg, editors Pietro Scalia and Elliot Graham, and costume designer Deborah L. Scott.


The latest chapter in the Spider-Man story is set for release in 3D on May 2, 2014.

I loved the first film in this new franchise so I'm pretty pumped for this.

I was not a fan of The Amazing Spider-man film, so I'll have to wait for a trailer or something to convince me this sequel's work watching. If the trailer looks like more of the same, I'll skip it.

Paul Giamatti is listed as The Rhino on IMDB, cool

Not my first choice, but happier to see these sorts of villain rather than trying to make "RL" versions of his rogue's gallery.

Would love to see like Scorpion or The Vulture.

I'm happy they aren't recycling villains. Although it looks like Green Goblin might play a role in a third film. As long as he's better than that goofy shit Raimi pulled off.

Can't wait for this.

I'm interested in seeing what Foxx will bring to the table as Electro. Imo, he's proven himself a versatile actor, so I have no qualms with him being cast.

And I agree, it's always great to see new villains onscreen, but I am admittedly excited to see what they could potentially pull off with the Green Goblin. Let's just hope they don't put him in another Power Ranger suit.

I'd like to see a better version of Green Goblin in these films.

He's the Joker of the Spiderman universe and Raimi did such a piss poor job with the character that he deserves to be rebooted as well.

i like chris cooper; that's totally cool. but i followed some links on that page and the exciting news...

i think we're going to get the purest costume this side of john romita, sr. i liked the costume they used in raimi's, mostly cus it was generally intact, but i didn't really care for the eyes, the raised webbing, the muted colors with scales, and face plate underneath the mask. i did like the spider on his back, though, better in fact than the comic. but it looks like now we are getting a perfect replica of spidey's costume with perfect, big romita eyes, and slightly brighter colors.
