I'm actually about to write about From Beyond (both the short story and the film) for a section of my thesis.

Oh really?! Thats awesome. For such a short story its a pretty impactful piece, theres so much to explore just in those 3 pages. I really enjoyed the movie but thought it went on for about 30 minutes to long- the one hour mark is where i think the film went completely off track from the story. I wish Lovecraft would have written a bit of a longer piece of From beyond, it would have been interesting to see how he would have taken it. Anyways good luck! Hopefully the drawing can give you some inspiration.

Thanks! I've already wrote in my paper about how important the story is, as it's one of Lovecraft's earliest examples of "Cosmic Horror". It's interesting how the first five minutes of the film are essentially an adaptation of the actual story, while everything else is sort of a continuation of the story or a "sequel".

And I agree, while I do enjoy the film, that last half hour is kind of weird, even for Stuart Gordon.

I'm actually writing about whether or not Lovecraft's themes are faithfully portrayed in certain adaptations. Even though I enjoy From Beyond on its own merits as a horror film, I'm still going to take it to task for its overemphasis on sex and S&M instead of focusing more on the cosmic horror aspects from the original story. I've already written a section pretty much bashing Die, Monster Die! for its treatment of "The Colour Out of Space". The third film I'm going to write about is The Unnamable, which is essentially a slasher film. In the last chapter of my paper, I'm going to argue that Prince of Darkness, which isn't even based on a Lovecraft story, is more faithful to the author's themes.

I'll admit, I'm a bit wordy at times and my writing can get repetitive, but if you're still interested I'd be glad to send you a copy.
