Seems like it is shaping up to do well in the technical categories. I want to see it but it kind of looks meh.

I am thinking the same. Ang Lee does some great movies so I am sure this will be good.

It also looks like it will be another awards season without my top 2 actresses Cate Blanchett and Kate Winslet, which saddens me. BUT come next year, we may see these 2 talented beauties up against eachother in one of the acting categories. OMG, I will be on pins and needles when that happens. As for my other 2 faves, Sissy Spacek and Jessica Lange? I think we will see Lange popping up here and there throughout the season.

Joaquin Phoenix (in an interview) just called the Oscars "bullshit" and that awards are the "stupidest thing in the world."
I think it's safe to say he won't be receiving any Oscars this year.

Oh my!! Yeah I read the whole interview. Holy!! But if his performance is great and he is critically acclaimed, he will get his nominations regardless. Oscar nomination too. Also makes me think he is still sour about losing to Phillip Seymore Hoffman in 2006.

Indeed. He will not be winning. Unless Weinstein kisses enough ass.

![]() Though he has a point here, but this will be commercial suicide for him. Sean Penn does it better: he ignores the Academy just with his absence and gives a shit whether he is nominated or not.

Phoenix was nominated twice, lost both times, and clearly doesn't even plan on showing up to the awards. He practically gave up all of his mainstream appeal and celebrity image for a movie that tanked and got abysmal reviews (I'm Still Here... despite being a brilliant piece of meta-satire). I would argue that Penn is much more savvy with his industry than Phoenix. He committed commercial suicide a long time ago. His work speaks for itself. Phoenix is fucking awesome.
