Ultimate Sleepaway Camp Thread

I like the original Sleepaway Camp, but it is kinda flawed. The film before the big shocker ending is pretty standard slasher fare. I do enjoy the characters in al their dumb and overacting glory. The kills are more interesting than not, but coulda upped the gore a bit. The twist ending pretty much makes the movie though and is the one image that stays with you long after you've seen it... nothing before it however is all that memorable.

Same as the Child's Play franchise, I only really stick with the first film. The sequels are trash, and Return is the biggest piece of annoying pointless shit I've ever seen.... disappointed doesn't even begin to cover it.

I haven't seen any of them. They had pt 3 at my local used DVD store and I was thinking of picking it up. But someone beat me to it, along with a few other golden age horror movies I had my peepers on.

Seems there is another horror fan in my area. Damn him/her!!!!

Part 2 and 3 are on netflix instaque. Just a heads up. I had never seen the 2nd and 3rd before this week. After watching them, IMO the 3rd is the best.

I went back and watched the 1st as well. 1st has some creepy pedo vibe the whole time and is clearly influenced by the original f13th, and it's giallo style killing.

The 2nd takes itself too serious, but the 3rd returns to that campy feeling, with Angela being playful with her morals, and kills. In the 2nd she was just too serious with it. Trying to be brutal, and real, and it made the movie have this really dry feeling. 3rd is also super sterotypical lol

I'd rate them like this

II is dry humour, funny as hell though. I thought III was just a rehash of II. I would give:

I do disagree though. Part 2 had a pretty serious tone. I don't even remember Angela smiling in the movie, and most of the kills are trying to be brutal. Burning someone alive, drowning in shit, multiple stabbings. The tone of the kills, and score, and Angela spitting out her morals just didn't gel for me.

Part 3 stereotypes the shit out of everything, so from the start it just had this goofy feeling, while part 2 was just another youth camp, with regular kids, like the first. On top of that, most of the kills in part 3 have this playful nature, that just fit with her whole joking-while-I'm-killing-you attitude. Mack Truck runover, arm ripoff with a jeep, firecracker to the face, flagpole drop, buried underground only to be run over with a lawnmower. Especially the beating the old dude took with the log at the beginning. Even the ending was playful, where as in part 2, it just tries to give you that shocking feeling like the ending of the first.

I think the 1st is the best balance of the 3, but the 3rd has the best kills, the best Angela, the best characters, the best camp, and the best camp.

Where to begin? I know, at the start. Congratulations to me, let's all have a disco...
Sleepaway Camp 1.
It's a film about kids being killed at an upstate New York summer camp, so far, so meh but Sleepaway Camp manages to put a new spin on cliched material. Oh yes, oh yes it does. You see, dear readers, this little film has a trick up it's sleeve, but you'll have to wait for it. Our hero, Angela, is a shy and rather awkward adolescent, she's tormented by lecherous cooks, bullied by bitchy girls and hit on by horny boys. I know right... EW!
Thankfully all these twats die in rather inventive ways and there's some utterly gratuitous nudity too. Oh yes there is
The shock ending has ensured Sleepaway Camp a certain notoriety, and while it's not exactly plausible it's still a fucking show stopping finale and one you're never likely to forget. Here's a clue... she's got a dick and she looks like some kind of deranged werewolf in the final scene. Oops, sorry, that wasn't so much of a clue, more a complete spoiler. Fucking sue me.
8/10.

Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers.
Oh how we chortle at that hilarious subtitle (), the ladyboy murderer is replaced with the fucking epic Pamela Springsteen, fuck yeah, shit's about to get fucking rock & roll all over Camp Rolling Hills because Bruce's daughter isn't gonna take any shit. Angela's no longer a shy li'l thing, oh no, now she's a vivacious and highly annoying camp counsellor, all peachy keen to get everyone involved in healthy and wholesome pursuits. Unfortunately, anyone who doesn't go along with her perky plans is executed in gruesome ways, some habits die hard. There's drowning in chemical toilets, being burnt to death or whatever floats your boat. Needless to say this is more of a comedy film than the first part as Angela kills them with cheesy one-liners for their sinful behaviour. It succeeds on every level. Don't take it seriously and just have fun.
8/10.

Sleepaway Camp 3: Teenage Wasteland.
This second sequel (who'd have thunk it eh?) sees everyones cult favourite Pamela Springsteen mow down her lookalike in a fucking bin lorry so as to assume her identity and go back to camp. Yeah, it really is that fucking mental. This time around rich snobby brats are thrown in with poor ghetto types, I think to reach some kind of common ground and all play nicely together (!) As is the case with the second it's merely an excuse for Angela to kill and quip and kill and quip.
If you're after a coherent plot then you can fuck right off but if you want to see a comical film about mass murder then here you go. There's also lots of tits on display and it stars that bloke out of all those films, you know, er, whatsisname, that guy. He was in Hannibal, forgot his name!
8/10.

Ps - I have seen the recent Return To Sleepaway Camp but I wouldn't even piss on it if it was on fire.

I had to stop right there to ponder why the typical male werewolf does not have a penis and to wonder why I haven't pondered this sooner. Perhaps the penis inverts itself during transformation. Wait, doesn't the movie Big Bad Wolf include a werewolf rape scene? I'll have to revisit that. Carry on.
