Well, I had a bad day yesterday too, so let's just call it even.

I'm sorry if I kinda put u in the box, but in my defense I did say 'most', not 'all'. But let's drop that matter here.

About HOTD's plot being too basic...I agree, but I think at times simplicity can do wonders and this is one of those times. Just because it's not complicated doesn't devalue its quality, IMO.

I know about Eden Lake & Inside, but I dunno u like Funny Games. But yes, let's not touch that subject again.

The Innkeepers is horror comedy so I won't expect Hitchcockian thriller like House of The Devil. But I do believe it will be superb, too bad Jocelyn Donahue doesn't star in there.

TBH, I think that movie is extremely boring at every point.

I passed out a couple of times during the "remake", and never found out what happened at the end. The sudden burst of black metal (or was it death metal? Grindcore? Sludge? Help me out here, metalheads) during the final credits not only woke me up, but scared the shit out of me. Come to think of it, it may have been the most terrifying moment of the whole film.

this made me laugh and I haven't even seen the film.

I personally really enjoyed the Strangers. One of the most unsettling movies I have seen that has been made in recent times. I think it unsettled me though, because I hadn't read or heard anything about it going into it, so I didn't even know what it was about.

Same with me.

I was also home alone a lot of the time when this was released, and ever since then home invasion has been one of my biggest fears.

YES. I was home alone too and had my surround sound cranked. When that first knock came on the door, I was already shitting myself

Funny story, I told my friend about the movie, he checked under his bed and in his closet for weeks and he hadn't even seen the movie.

Actually, the first time I attempted to watch it, I saw Baghead in the corner when Liv was in the kitchen, and I stopped watching. It was like 2:30 in the morning and the parents were out at Wal-Mart getting Christmas presents.

I was a little bitch with horror movies until about a year 1/2 ago.

I'm assuming you've seen the original since you are speaking of the new one as a remake, so you basically already know what happens. It's almost a shot-for-shot remake.

The song that acts as a bookend for the film is actually by an incredible "avant-garde" metal band called Naked City. I still can't tell if the song was used ironically or not, but I'm assuming it was because it directly conflicts with the style of the film. It was also used in the original, if I'm not mistaken.

I really enjoyed both, though. I'm bummed to see so little appreciate these little gems.

I watched the movie when I was alone at home too, at night, but I ended up having this reaction:

The guy in the picture isn't me, but our reaction was more or less the same when I watched The Strangers.

But of course, good for u if u like it.

I think the reason why homes in USA are vulnerable to invasions are their lacks of securities.

I live in Indonesia and my father is an architect so he designed our current home all by himself. And he admitted security was his number 1 concern so he had all doors to the porch sealed with metal bars and various padlocks, as well as equipping the windows with iron bars. Our garage is equipped with metal sliding doors secured by three different locks. And he placed shred of glasses above the outside walls and barb wires all over the fences. So, if anyone tries to break into our home, not only will he has to suffer the wrath of wires and glasses (which will probably injured his limbs), he will also have to undergo a hard measure to break in even just to our garage, which will no doubt produce a loud sound that alarms the entire household and give me enough time to equip ourselves with the shotgun we keep in our drawer.

It's been 14 years since the first time we inhabit our current house, and the last time a thief tried to break in, he had to be taken to a local hospital thanks to some excessive injuries on his feet. And no, I'm not kidding.

Our house has absolutely no security.

A 8 year old could probably break in here.

I do appreciate Funny Games, but not in the sense that I found it to be a good film. I appreciated that it seemed very shocking and visceral without really showing a lot of graphic, bloody violence like so many others in it's sub-genre seem to do. While I didn't care for it, I did feel that it was several notches above the myriad of similar-themed films that had been made around the time (I'm referring to the remake), except for Inside.

I don't know what it is that turns me off about the home invasion genre, although I think it has something to do with being a victim of one myself several years back. I didn't suffer through the same kind of dramatic hide-and-seek sequences, nor did I get tortured and killed (obviously), but I had men randomly choose my apartment (!) and burst in with guns. They held my roommate and I hostage for twenty minutes or so, robbed us blind, and then pistol-whipped him before leaving. My girlfriend at the time was over, and since she was in the back of the apartment they never knew she was even there. She wisely hid in my bedroom, locked the door, and called the cops. It was a crazy experience, and some of these films hit kind of close to home with me. I have no connection to pregnant or blind women, and therefore have no issue enjoying the hell out of Wait Until Dark and Inside, which I consider to be the top choices in this particular sub-genre. Hypocritical? Absolutely.
