I went into this not expecting much and was ready for some dumb fun. It went beyond "typically bad" and was offensively bad. Leatherface was treated poorly and one of most cliche, horrifically acted, idiotically plotted, and embarrassingly dumb movies I've seen in a long time was the result. This is the kind of shit that gives horror a bad name. I just can't make any excuses for this and believe me I was trying my hardest. Actually I was having a lot of fun for the first 30 or 40 minutes. It was extremely dumb and didn't make any sense, but man when that second half hits it really hurts. Any merit I may have seen was completely erased. I really really hate this movie, and I hate to say it because I love this franchise so much.

Other than the time and age inconsistencies, what about the movie makes you think that it was worse than the Next Generation? I'm not calling you out or anything, I am just seriously curious.

Next Generation at least has some b-movie shlock value. Its just goofy and stupid, at no point is it attempting to be a real, scary film (or maybe it was, but it just comes together as a riot for me).

This was just miserable. They were shooting for a dark and scary film with a threatening villain and some sort of psychological themes in the plot. It just falls flat. The acting is turgid, the script poorly written and illogical, the kills were just meh (and the fucking CGI absolutely ruined most of them), and the tone was obviously an attempt at dread. None of it works, its just too stupid on every level. It takes itself so seriously that I can't help but loathe it.

Like I said in my initial thoughts, if it was a spoof it would have been gold. This was so fucking dumb that there was no other way it would have worked.

I really didn't like it! It was like they are were trying to make Leatherface into this feeling human and that is not what he is suppose to be. The kills were embarrassingly bad and the fact you only got to see one good chainsaw kill is a unacceptable

It was hilariously bad how Heather looks at 4 or 5 pictures of her dead relatives and decides "Hey! Fuck all of my best friends being murdered in cold blood! Who cares if my family was a group of psychopathic cannibals!? I'm gonna help this guy with a chainsaw who has been trying to kill me because he's my cousin!".

Seriously I'm done with this movie. I never want to see it again. I warn anybody who even wants to torrent it.

Just got back from seeing this and it was garbage. The writing was woeful and it angers me that 3 writers who have the oppertunity to write a TCM movie for wide release could write such thoughtless crap.

They made every character dis-likable and Leatherface an Anti-Hero, where is the dread and suspense when you can care for no one?

Having a family symbol and orphan is a cheap plot device that has been done in other bad films. Leatherface running through the fairground is just one of many examples of inept writing (The girl getting into the police car was painfully dumb, I thought we were supposed to assume he was the mayor's son from the get go?)

One plus is I enjoyed the first couple of minutes with the "original" footage in 3D.
