Maybe not in your world, where you can actually compare Psycho to ASF, and keep a straight face.

Again good points to an already beatdown discussion. ASF is twisted as fuck, but it is ok to like it, I have no probs with it. It is just twisted and sick - there is actually no problem at all with that fact.

Digging up corpses and sewing them together..... that's sick! Oh, wait, that is part of the plot of Frankenstein.

Baby-raping... whoah, that's sick! Except it's actually a part of the plot. Even the skull-fucking all fits in with the context of the plot.

Yeah, it could be described as sick and twisted. But when I go to see a horror movie, I don't expect to be watching something like a romantic comedy.

Plus, everyone has a different idea of what they consider sick and twisted.

I can picture exactly where this movie really came from. The writer is watching Rob Zombies Halloween and suddenly he hears the line.."I'll skull fuck ya.." and a film idea is born.

I'm not going to be as warm and fuzzy as some have been here. It a sick piece of crap. Its not a good film, its not a bright film, there's been lots of blood and gore explotation films that beat this junk.

There are real films like Martyrs and fun sick films like Haute Tension that took actual skill and talent to make and you know what ASF isn't like any of them.

It's not a political statement, its not a good gore film, it's a sick and fucked up film.

Normally I'm all for to each his own but really if your idea of enjoyment is watching a guy rape his kid in the ass or watching someone rape a baby, if the idea of a guy shoving his dick in someones eye socket sounds like a stroke of genius..well I can't help ya. Talk to someone, figure out why it takes this extreme of horror to touch you. Has it gotten really that bad? Has horror jaded and dulled some people so much that this travesty becomes a good idea?

I cannot believe some of the people on here... You rave about gory, violent films but when it comes to this particular movie, you get all sensitive and offended. I don't get it.

It all depends on context... And yes, context is there. Just showing 'sick' stuff does not push boundaries. There has to be context. Otherwise, it's something like Faces of Death and not true cinema.

A Serbian Film is boldly pushing new boundaries in cinema. It may be at the frontier. But there are other films like Martyrs, Irreversible, Inside, etc doing the same. Why should anything be off-topic or taboo? As long as there is that key thing - context.

I don't know about the August Underground series. Haven't seen it. But by all accounts, it sounds like a simulated snuff movie. That kind of thing doesn't interest me.

I wouldn't say it`s pushing any more boundaries, than the countless "video nasties" that have been getting made since the 70's. There is plenty of vile shit out there. It's not like you'll ever see anything like this, crossing over to the mainstream anytime soon. General rape, is still pretty touchy, let alone the shit that goes on in ASF.

I finally agree with you though. ASF is not "only" there for shock value. There is a decent story, surrounding all the mayhem, and I'm sure the filmmakers had somekind of method to their madness, rather than just thinking "let's rape some babies, and sodomise family members!'.

All I've really been saying, is that love it or hate it, it's undeniably sick and fucked up, and goes further than most films in the genre. Well made. Well written. Still, very fucked up.
