The last scene of the movie is my fave.
SPOILER I hate that the protag went RAMBO during the climax and that the wife turned into a she-beast. The whole scene was also poorly shot. Too bad. |

I put my entire post in spoilers, because I unintentionally wrote a mini-review while putting down my thoughts. I have so much more to say, but I think this gets my point across. Don't read this if you don't want to know about the film before you see it. I apologize for the length. If anybody has a big problem with this, I'm sure it can be deleted.
I just finished watching this 5 minutes ago, and I'm not really sure what to think. I always rate movies on IMDB after I finish them, and I had to sit and think for a few minutes about how I should rate this one. From a technical standpoint, I thought it was a very good movie. It was well acted and directed, has some beautiful cinematography, and the story was very engaging and original. I'm not talking about the messed up aspects of the film or the story. I'm speaking strictly viewing this as nothing but a movie, because that's all it is. A very messed up movie, but nonetheless, just a movie. I don't know what the budget was for it, but it had a very refined and professional look. From an ethical standpoint, I could probably count on one hand the number of people I would ever recommend watch this film. I'm always looking for films that push the envelope or will shock me, but I am not even remotely interested in "gore for the sake of gore" movies (August Underground, Guinea Pig, etc). I love my gore, but I love films with substance more. Everything I heard about this made me think it was going to be a chore to get through, and "some things, you can't UNsee" stuck in my head. I read that (as it was quoted earlier in this thread) someone was so disturbed by what they saw that they got disoriented/dizzy and fell on their way out of the theater, falling face first into a door and breaking their nose. Even Tex Massacre's review on here had me thinking I was going to be in for a hell of a ride. So, was it as shocking and disturbing as I heard? Well, no. Was it one of the more fucked up movies I've ever seen? ABSOLUTELY. I am in no way saying this movie was easy to get through, or even fun to watch. It was not fun to watch. It is a very messed up, depressing film. There are things that happen that I would never want anybody to see, unless they are horror junkies like myself and many others on this site. Even then, you'd have to be pretty desensitized to not be repulsed or horrified at what you are seeing. I learned just how desensitized I am tonight. However, the actual presentation of these horrific acts is not as bad as it sounds. Much like The Human Centipede (which I loved), the way you see these things played out in your head is far worse than what is shown on screen. Again, I'm not saying that these things aren't terribly unethical and extremely messed up, because they are. EXTREMELY. I'm simply stating that the imagination is far worse than the presentation. You see enough, more than enough really, but it's not as graphic as you may think. In the end, I'd say this film was an extremely fucked up look at the darkness of human nature. I don't know enough about Serbia to connect the political dots I'm sure were present in the film, but I left with a fresh reminder of how fucked up some people can be, no matter where they are from. 8/10 And a thing to remember. A lot of times when you hear about people fainting or vomiting at a festival due to an extreme movie, these people are not horror fans. These people are from the general public who probably haven't seen anything remotely graphic in their life. |

I loved this movie, one of the sickest films I've ever seen. However I still prefer Life and Death of a Porno Gang (2009) (another film from Serbia). Its not as shocking as A Serbian Film ( although it does have its moments), but over all a much more interesting film IMO.
