Yeah, but even if Ash comes back, he'll break a hip if he even attempts to use his chainsaw.

Would you replace Freddy, Jason or Myers, and still call it NMOES, Friday the 13th or Halloween?
I disagree. The sum total of ED's horror elements far outweighs the memorability of the face character. In horror, even minor villians tend to be of greater value than the reappearing hero, as they present the conflicts and forward the plot.

Ash is Evil Dead. Period.
No Ash. No Evil Dead.

i am definitely a slavish evil dead/bruce campbell fan. evil dead and evil dead 2 are my favorites, followed by the different, but highly entertaining army of darkness. in my mind, bruce campbell can do no wrong. i have read his books and i will see movies/tv simply because he is in them. i don't think he's marlon brando, but i always liked john agar better, anyway. that is to say, i appreciate b movie actors and b movies.

having said that, remake away, with or without ash. the character is bruce campbell's, so why not create a new character/characters to battle the deadites? i mean, i don't mind if they have a new ash, but if they do, he or she better be fuckin awesome, y'know? i will happily see the remake regardless. i like remakes, even if i think the majority of them blow. if raimi has his hand in the production and chose the director with other renaissance guys, well that's good enuf for me. do i expect it to match the original evil dead? of course not, nothing could. that movie was as unique a production experience as they come, and the finished product was a beautiful mish-mash of interesting images, combined with energetic artists, through the lens of one of the most unique cameras in the annals of horror. watch the credits of the original. there's like fifteen people on it. but there's no reason to think a story about a few people in a cabin in the woods under assault by the demon dead can't be brought back to the screen creatively, freshly, and entertainingly.

i would like a straight, post-army of darkness evil dead IV, however, headlined by our main man, the inimitable bruce campbell, directed by sam, and produced by sam, bruce, rob and scott. no reason not to...
