3/10? Come on now Mogwai. I can understand maybe not liking it as much as others but 3/10 implies it's complete trash. CITW is FAR from that. Either you have ridiculous high standards or you're just trolling.

Agreed. This film is nowhere near bad. I thought it was brilliant and did exactly what it was trying to do, perfectly.

Among many remake, sequel and prequel. It was missing something fresh, newsworthy and original. It is not a masterpiece, but definitely is not shit. And the delusional and unforgettable final part justifies almost the entire movie.

A 6/10 for me.

It's a good time flick. Light on the scares but like Scream before it, heavy on the deconstruction of horror films. It's funny and gruesome in equal spades and has a great third act. A likeable cast also helps.

Is it the second coming of horror ? No. It's a highly entertaining film that most horror fans should enjoy.

Same here. It would've scored higher had the editing been better. So many scenes, esp. the early hillbilly zombie ones, were cut so quick that no tension was created and the audience was barely able to glimpse the monsters.

Okay, tbh I left that msg in response to a mong who proclaimed that "anyone who doesn't like this film, doesn't get it". I'd just got back from the pub and was 3 sheets when I rated it a 3/10 but upon careful deliberation I reckon I was being kind, I'll half that and award it 1.5/10 in retrospect.
Now this score deserves some explanation so here goes...
I was anticipating 'Scream', er, I mean 'Cabin in the Woods' (who cares about semantics ey? It's the same fucking film) to be a mindlessly entertaining carnival ride of gruesomeness ala 'Demon Knight' or 'Planet Terror'. My expectations were too high. The reason for the Scream comparison stems from the fact that both films exhibit a dunderheaded self awareness of the cliches and conventions of the horror genre and throw them in our face like we're fucking stupid. "Look dude, look what we're doing! We're turning the slasher genre upside down with our genius and re-writing the formula single handed. Look at how edgy and creative we are. Look at us. LOOK AT US." Er, no thanks, with that level of subtelty I'll politely fuck off and watch 'The Evil Dead' instead, a film made by a guy who knows how to use exposition.
Now, I'm no fan of breaking down the conventional walls of the genre, I find it lazy and vexing and at best doing so is disrespectful and at worst is destructive to the genre. It was neither a horror, nor a comedy, nor a horror/comedy. It was simply an excercise in smug self promotion from an insufferable upstart twat who believed he was being creative when in reality he was damaging the horror scene. I fucking hope to high heaven this doesn't start a new trend in post-modernistic-crap-fest-pretentious-tripe-in-the-woods-horror.
But never mind this rant because everyone else won't realise the harm and will laugh and shit themselves and spit popcorn for years to come. Oh how I look forward to the future.
The future of horror cinema is gonna be soooo awesome and, like, totally kewl and self-referential.
I can't wait dudes...

Agree. A nice film but nothing spectacular.

I 100% agree with you. This movie is a lazy, smug pile of dogshit and anyone who plays the "you don't like it because you didn't get it card" is annoying, delusional and should kill themselves.

I "get" this movie completely, its over the top satire. I have to say I have waited a long ass time for this movie to come out and this was a big let down to what I thought it was going to be. Now thats not to say it was bad because for what it was, it wasnt. It was just a letdown.
