I LOVE Ho1000C. It's great. Devil's Rejects was okay, but nothing special.

Both were sub-par films from a talentless hack.

From the Halloween 2 thread:
Quote:

Most of the people who "bash it" do.

Rob Zombie made a poor film. Between the juvenile writing, amateur direction, and the choice to cast friends (yet again) instead of talented actors who can convey emotions like professionals, you have a sub-par attemtpt at film making.

It's sad because unlike most film makers who seems to get better with each attempt Rob took a step backward. His first attempt was utter garbage, but that was understandable because, well, it was his first attempt. Then came TDR. The sequel to his first attempt. Reasoning and simple deduction would make you think that it would only get worse. IT wasn't. IT was a better attempt at film making, granted all the pitfalls and mistakes that seem to be his "M.O" are still there, but at least it showed improvement.

Then, what did he do? He decided to "re-imagine" Halloween. Okay. Fine. What did he do? He fumbled. Nay, he failed. Even if it wasn't a remake, it's still a failure at film making. As I've pointed out, he casted his actors out of friendship and not talent (which in itself is a huge mistake), He wrote the film as if it were about the family from his earlier film's cousins/neighbors. He then proceeded to plug the word "fuck" in every third sentence. Couple that with his direction, and you have a film with horrible writing, terrible acting, and the pacing of a music video. I can only imagine what Rob would have done without the source material as a rudder to steer the story in a pre-determined direction. I'm pretty sure it might have just turned out to be a sequel to his first two films.

Halloween: The Night They Came Back (A zombiefied Firefly family rising from the grave on the cover of the DVD)

You mean posting why I dislike the films instead of blindly hating or loving them?

You're welcome.

I still hold The Devil's Rejects in high regard. I can understand the hate, but for me it was a blast.

In retrospect, I can see Rob Zombie for the hack he is. I think this truly was the best we're gonna get from him, whereas when it came out I thought he could only get better. I was wrong, as the trailers for H2 will easily clarify.

This film however, was a breath of fresh air at the time. Horror was on a high, and this pretty much capped it all off. I LOVE the characters, and the progression they made in a mere two films. Otis just rocks, and shed his ridiculous look and role from the first, to grant the best performance we are likely to see from Bill Mosely. His scenes(especially the 'fight' scene), are quite memorable. Sherri Moon does a great job(Yeah, yeah, LOL..) as Baby, and her intense scenes with Wydell near the end really carry some scenes that could have been filler. Sid Haig rocks as always.

Sheriff Wydell makes the film though. Without William Forsythe's intensity, this movie would have really suffered. He makes you believe in his vendetta, despite the ridiculous world it is taking place in.

So yeah, I still love TDR.

There are thousands of other movies much more worthy of your time.
