Amazonia - The Catherine Miles Story (1985)

The first scene, set in Italy and involving a man questioning an old Catherine Miles on her journey in the Amazon has, to this date, the most ridiculously awful dubbing and execution of dialogue I have ever seen, with the character of Catherine Miles standing with her back to the camera, often talking when the sound dubbed over her has paused. The whole scene feels like the producers of the film just started filming two random people in Italy and then dubbed over the written dialogue. One of the scenes following, also, involving long helicopter shots over the wilderness in the Amazon was filmed with a blurry, out-of-focus lens with clunky camera movements and turns out visually quite awful instead of the almost enchanting visuals in some other cannibal films by which it was aiming for.

Apart from a few scenes of unrelated and gratuitous shots of animals killing each other, the film quickly cleans up its act with the deft court-room narrations throughout the coarse of the entire film, occasionally and appropriately interrupting given sequences. The film goes from being a jungle horror, to an exploitive jungle documentary, to a rather touching love story and climaxes with a great confrontational revenge scene. In the first few minutes of the film, the film surprisingly delivers some solid shocks and scares with its sudden flashes of shots of the mutilation of Catherine's parents, which are generally the film's most notorious and pivotal scenes.

I tend to disagree; I rather enjoyed this movie though you could tell right away the killing of her family was a setup. I thought it was awesome myself

I really enjoyed this one. The gore effects were pretty damn good, worth watching.

Although there isn't really any cannibalism in it from what I can remember, this film is still very entertaining 80's exploitation.

There is not much gore but the story is more or less interesting. There's even a love story if my memory serves me.

I thought there were a few really impressive gore scenes, not sure why you didn't think there was much... Sure it's no Dead/Alive, but this film does deliver in that department in my opinion.

Highly prefer the "White Slave" title.

Agreed, 'Amazonia: The Catherine Miles Story' is too bland for this particular film and makes it sound like a docudrama or something. White Slave is more fitting.
