Jack Ketchum novels/films - Page 3 - BLOODY-DISGUSTING

I just saw LOST. This was less a conventionally plotted story than a character study of someone who was indeed "lost". Ray Pye was pretty loathsome; little effort was taken to "explain" him or otherwise make him accessible, but he never seemed more or less than human. The other characters were well-defined and mostly sympathetic, even those who knew of Ray's crime and chose to say nothing. The film seemed pointless, but was too well-made and emotionally compelling to be easily dismissed as a trashy wallow in depravity.

So what was it all about? The filmmakers and Ketchum himself might be asking that question. Maybe that counts for something, or maybe the film really is just trendy nihilism. But I was glad to see this thread because I wanted to talk about the film, so it must have made some kind of impression.

Red was a decent book, but it was really the short stories accompanying it that shined. The Lost was decent also. Girl Next Door, on the other hand, is an awesome book. Totally disturbing and important. I've never read a book that has had such a devestating effect on me. One of the top 10 books I've read.

I've been hearing a lot about GIRL NEXT DOOR, including much that made me doubt I would ever read or see it. There were too many of the wrong kind of people making it sound like more "torture porn". But I'm starting to think I was too hasty; I will probably check it out.

It isnt like Hostel, in fact the stuff that they do show is only really there to progress the film but that doesnt make it any less painful to watch. The movie isnt gory for the fun of it. It is a good book and film. Give it a rent as it isnt for everyone.

i just read The Offspring. what a fucked up book. Seriously. When I was done I was left thinking "WTF!" But it was good. I know I'll read it again eventually.

I agree! My sister bought me a copy of this movie for Christmas. It's not torture porn at all...Like someone else said. It's more to get the point across of how fucked up the people in the story are. It's really good. Really disturbing though. Especially being a female...I cringed...I'm sure you can guess what part.

Yeah there are a couple cringe-worthy moments in that movie. Its sad to know people like that exist.

I have been a fan of Jack Ketchum for a while now. Something that really bothered me about the Girl Next Door movie, is that the ending was so unsatisfying.
