Just gave 4 a compete watch for the first time. I liked it a lot, but some of the mechanics felt like part 1 plot wise (Loomis having to beg with cop to believe that Mike Myers is back), and forced (Jamie getting lost walking down the street on Halloween even though Rachel was only distracted for a second). It drags for the first half, then picks up when the lynch mob gets involved. The last 30 mins is where it shines, the action and suspense are ramped up, all leading to that great twist ending. Danielle Harris does a great job. Shes a true scream queen. Her and Pleasance are the acting highlights. 7.5/10
I still prefer the original, though. Part 4 is like the same thing as part 1, but without the cinematography, and score. I also much prefer the prankster Michael from the first. Every other Halloween failed to capture that essence of him... Haddonfield is a great location, but I dunno, If JC hadn't made it look so good in the original, then I might say that the private school location of H2O is my fav. H2O had potential... Resurrection is even a guilty pleasure for me, as it's a hilarious attempt to bring Halloween into the "modern generation" with the found footage gimmick. And Busta Rymes.... ![]() My rank is Halloween, Halloween II, Halloween 4, H20...... Resurrection, Halloween 5, Halloween 6, Halloween III............. RZ Halloweenz

Cinematically speaking, H4 clearly outdoes the orig., maintaining the crisp look, light contrast for scares, 1st-POV, and even adding a killer dolly zoom (at the garage/diner). |

Ya, Mike does do some trickster stuff, but it becomes borderline absurd, with him putting on a different mask, and escorting one of the girls to the gas station for cigarettes only to have the cops show, and him disappear into thin air while one cop car is literally parked 2 feet from him. I thought part 4 outdoes nothing in the first, aside from having better child acting, and a more "exciting" ending.

I don't think Halloween needed any sequels, except for part 3 which had nothing to do with Michael Myers.
Unlike Friday the 13th or ANOES which actually had some pretty good sequels, every Halloween sequel was either a parody or a sub-par slasher flick (even part 2 which I think is massively overrated). |

Friday the 13th was really the first slasher. Because it was the first to really combine all of those classic elements that make a slasher and turn it into a unique genre. First and foremost, the bloody and gory kills. |
