Default The Best Vincent Price Performance

I know it is cliche to mention Vincent Price, but there is a reason he is cliche. The man was a great over actor, which fit horror perfectly. Nobody has ever (in my opinion) been able to touch his camp. So I submit a poll of what I consider his best 15 performances. What do you think is the best, of the 15.

VP's Matthew Hopkins in WITCHFINDER is easily and without doubt his best performance.

Ain't no "camp" in that one.

2nd is his too-short appearance in EDWARD SCISSORHANDS.

No "camp" there either.

I almost agree. Between the two best performances in VP's career I go with Theatre of Blood for various reasons which I won't take up a page to explain. Other than that I totally agree with your estimation on Witchfinder General. It is easily his best film, and arguably his best performance. Certainly it should be in anyone's top 3 of his career with Dr. Phibes taking up the rear.

Witchfinder was a brilliant film and Price's performance is phenomenal if for no other reason that the fact he wasn't the campy Vincent Price. In that movie he proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that Hollywood had ultimately failed him. His talents were misused. Don't get me wrong I love a large portion of his work in horror, but the man could really act. You only get a small taste of his true depth and brilliance in the small amount of heavy roles he played and Witchfinder is one of them, and agreed his small performance in Edward Scissorhands was one of his most endearing. I almost listed that film but felt too many would claim that because it was his last.

Vincent Price playing Dr. Erasmus Craven in The Raven is my favorite.
