"The Woman In Black" was good, but it wasn't close to the level of "The Haunting", "The Innocents", & "Shutter".

Had The Innocents included two jump scares, would you have dismissed it as trash?

People? It was just Heathen (1 person), far from "people".

I would have imagined so. Thank you for telling me that, mate.

I never said jumps scares are trash, I said they were often ineffective. The only effective jump scares I've seen in horror was Shutter, but even then it was only effective for the first one hour because I became so used to Natre appearing all over that the last 30 minutes wasn't even scary anymore. That is the biggest downfall of jump scares I guess.

I find horror movies with slow burn scares like The Innocents, The Haunting, Psycho, Ring, Dark Water, Hour of The Wolf, and Black Christmas for example to be scarier than movies that rely on jump scares.

In accordance with your question, I don't think so. The horror of The Innocents is too grand to be rendered useless by two quick jump scares.

That reminded me of the episode of Sunny where Frank is the troll and needs the toll.

Discovered this awesome site, which features almost every aspect of this classic.
Really, really recommended.

I want to see the documentary Room 237.

Also, I'm re-reading the novel because a sequel is coming out in a few months called Doctor Sleep.

The Shining: Forwards and Backwards is exactly what it sounds like: a screening of The Shining with a (silent) reverse projection of The Shining screened on top. While I don’t believe the conspiracies that Stanley Kubrick hid secret messages in the movie, the man was a notorious symmetry junkie, and the structure of the film makes for some eerie moments, like the “Here’s Johnny” scene superimposed over a calm, pre-freak-out Jack Nicholson being welcomed to the hotel. You’ve seen lots of haunted-house movies, but have you ever seen a movie haunt itself? (SIFF Cinema Uptown, 511 Queen Anne N, siff.net, 7 pm, $11)
Never can put anything past Kubrick but not sure I buy this one. No way I'd pay 11 dollars to find out.
