Default Rituals

I'm surprised there's no thread on this amazing slasher.

It's like Deliverance without the assrape.

Great movie starring Hal Holbrook from 1977. It's also known as The Creeper I believe. It's fairly easy to find a copy as I believe it's a public domain movie now. I've seen it show up on those MillCreek compilation dvd's.

Anyway, great movie about 5 doctors going on a travelling trip to the Canadian wilderness. After the first night someone steals their boots. It's all down hill from there. Some very creep scenes and it's something to watch Hal Holbrook's character go from the level headed one to the one losing his mind and giving into the madness.

Search it out. Great movie. Try to find a better copy than the MillCreek versions as they are really dark in some scenes.

I prefer it over Deliverance and Just before Dawn.

SPOILER

Hal Holbrook makes a great final girl.

Unfortunately, no - no assrape.
I won't compare this film with such like Deliverance? I don't see a point. They are entirely different to me aside from location and the act of survival.
Characters seem REAL which gives it a cool feel. There's plenty of gab going on in the film, but that's to be expected of a 70's feature(not always a bad thing). I was never bored - enjoyed it.

Also, Code Red rules.

I finally caught up to this little, lost gem. It's an entertaining low budget wilderness flick with great characters, acting (Holbroock's a beast), tension, and camera work.

I definitely recommend tracking this one down.

Yes, without assrape. The 'surviving the wilderness' comparison with Deliverance is there, but not revealing the antagonist outright in Rituals gives it that mystery aspect that bumps it up a notch.

I watched the OOP Code Red release and it was an alright film. It definitely had its moments but overall I was a bit disappointed.

I actually saw this film on the big screen in the mid-80s as part of a double feature.

One of the best horror film viewing experiences ever!
