Samurai Film Appreciation - BLOODY-DISGUSTING

Recently i've become increasingly interested in, and enamored by old japanese Chambara (sword fight) and Jidaigeki (period drama) style films. With my growing fondness comes the need to find more and more of these great works, just to substantiate my new found addiction.. Obviously, there's no shortage of material out there. But of course as is always the case, some are better than others.

Point being, name some of your favourites of the genre.. Aswell as and most importantly, some of the more obscure and or rarely mentioned titles that often go overlooked.

Yojimbo and Seven Samurai are my favorite samurai flicks. Can't go wrong with Kurosawa.

I have still yet to see Seven Samurai. I need to rent that and re rent Shogun Assassin and just make a little night of it. By the way that's a damn fine avatar there Mr. Ripper.

Seven Samurai and Samurai Rebellion are my favourites. Others I enjoyed:

Yojimbo
Sanjuro
Ugestu
Sword of Doom
Samurai Assasin
Throne of Blood
The Samurai Trilogy

Basically any samurai flick with the great Toshiro Mifune.

I dug 'em...they're definitely nowhere near the quality of Sword of Doom, but they hold their own, and are worth seeing so you get the entire story. You can get decent bootlegs from http://www.samuraimoviedvd.com/, it's where I bought them from. They're pricey as hell otherwise.

Oh, and I just remembered Destiny's Son, which is awesome as well

Sweet, Destiny's Son is another i've been wanting to get a hold of... but of course it's been a bitch trying to find a decent release. Actually, it seems to be a bitch getting a good release of any Ichikawa Raizo films period.
