Default Fangoria Fan Personals/Classifieds from the 1980s?

Fangoria in the 1980s allowed subscribers to place a few personal lines in the back of each issues . . . most of the personals read something like: "AC/DC, Metallica, Crue, VH RULE! LEATHERFACE vs. FREDDY will happen! Wrestling sux . . . MORE GORE!"

Do any of you remember these ads? Did any of you actually post? Seems like an archaic, anarchic and antiquated means of communicating likes and dislikes regarding horror . . .

I never posted in those adds, but i always read them, having been a lifelong Fangorian myself. I miss those adds. They were always fun. I also miss the full page Fantaco adds that used to run back then, where you could order Gore Shriek, Deep Red magazine, etc.

Yes, FANTACO . . . a great catalogue . . . they published GORE SHRIEK and had all kinds of odds and ends. . . NIGHTMARES INTERNATIONAL was a great source for prosthetics . . . they were out of Houston . . . I thought the GOREZONE mag was kinda lame in that it consited of centerfolds of of somewhat blurred scenes from FROM BEYOND and the like . . . I also remember the t-shirts avalialable and the FANGORIA records/tapes available . . it was a good time for horror!

oh man, I remember reading those. And I'm sure I read a really messed-up little ad that read something like "I'm not crazy! What do you do when your mind is your worst enemy?" - it had a crazy little illustration of a guy in a straitjacket and it was supposedly advertising videotapes of real-life footage from inside Lunatic Asylums.... Or something like that. Ha Ha!

FANGORIA was my life when I was a kid and up until about five years ago, I had a 99% complete collection but the quality of the mag - articles, covers etc. - sadly deteriorated, so I quit collecting it. Still held on to some of my favourite classic issues though - mostly stuff from the 80's.

You're lucky to still have your classic Fangos. Sadly, mine were stolen years ago, along with the first 12 or so issues of Gorezone, posters still intact. Over the years I've slowly been building up my old collection again. Was just going through some back issues recently, looking for #169 in which I had a letter printed in the Postal Zone. My first (and only) published writing. Good times.

I miss collecting that mag and was thinking about subscribing recently, but it seems our dear Fangoria is not what she once was.

I am sorry to hear you lost your classic issues. I also had all those early GOREZONE issues with the posters intact - they were bad-ass! I also had a THIRD mag they published only for a few issues I think, called TOXIC HORROR.

Good Times indeed! That whole 80's and early 90's era was the best! FANGORIA magazine has lost it's edge but then I attribute a lot of that to the quality of films that it covers i.e. the horror films being made; not as great a genre as it once was. FANGORIA magazine had an almost 'porn mag' quality to it - I used to read it in class at school and had several issues confiscated, which would make me absolutely SCREAM at the teachers! I'd actually threaten the poor souls that they'd better not damage my mags, that they were very expensive and hard to get hold of! Teachers would ask "Do your parents know you read this filth?!"
