I suspect the fact that they were published posthumously had something to do with it and they were overly hyped by the media leading them to become the book you have to read. Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code is similar having been hyped out of all proportion seeing as it is actually a bit shit.

Is that the story where the guy gets his asshole stuck in the pool filter?

Just finished Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott. She gets you right into the character, says a lot with few words. Very intense and depressing. I loved it.

Think I may reread something by Laurie Notaro to lighten my mood.
