loved it.they didnt try to go for a happy ending like the other season.the season started off slow and then with the thanksgiving episode

seriously man. the original ending of the finale was super lame. it basically was going to end like this :

Dexter kills Trinity then starts heading to meet Rita. Along the way he turns on the radio and hears about a child murderer on the loose. He then looks at the camera and the season ends.

That was it man! The actually finale was SO much better and I agree with you with them not going with the happy ending. Supposedly they are starting Season 5 DIRECTLY after 4. They want to give the viewer the opportunity to grieve with Dexter.
