I don't think he holds the rights to Tolkiens Silmarillion, in which everything begins from the very start. Creation, the Gods and all the demigod-like figures and creatures.
Though, I am not sure.
He doesn't, New Line only owns rights to LOTR and the Hobbit. Any extras will be from the Appendices.

Hmm, still can't see how that could work out. All I know is the hopes are high and it better deliver.

This thing with this one, is that some of the magic and wonder will be lost. We're not seeing Middle Earth for the first time. It will more than likely still be an amazing trilogy, but it will have a familiar feeling to it all. At least that's what I'm getting from the trailers.
I can agree, I get the same vibe after viewing the trailers. I'm just hoping for the same kind of atmosphere as LOTR...it had amazing backdrops, characters, etc. It's just the hype for this movie is grand due to the success of the LOTR, kinda like TDK and TDKR. Nolan did a fantastic job with TDK, so the hype for TDKR was SO high a lot of fans were disappointed with the outcome 'cause they were expecting something out of this world and it wasn't delivered, they thought it was just 'mediocre'. So I won't be going in expecting too much like a lot of people will, that way I'm not THAT disappointed if it flops.

I spent eight years trying to reach her, and then another seven trying to keep her locked up because I realized that what was living behind that cow's eyes was purely and simply... evil.

Even though Jackson has earned our confidence (& then some) I'm still a little worried about stretching this into a trilogy. The thing about "The Hobbit" is that one of its biggest strengths is that it probably has the tightest narrative of any story ever. (especially when compared to the lotr) Jackson's going to be adding a ton of story within that already established narrative. And I know he's using Tolkien's own history of Middle Earth as the blueprint for the added material but still; I just hope it doesn't derail what is already a well-oiled machine.

And for the record; I don't think the LOTR Trilogy will be topped by these films or any other trilogy in my lifetime but that's neither here nor there. Just from a tonal standpoint "The Hobbit" is very different from the LOTR. "An Unexpected Journey" in particular is going to look and feel very different from the three films we've seen already. Middle Earth is a golden world when we're first introduced to it and that stays largely in-tact throught the whole of "The Hobbit". But from what I understand "The Desolation Of Smaug" & "There And Back Again" are going to gradually look more and more like the world Jackson established back in 2001. We shall see.

On a side note, got my tickets already

There seem to be a lot of people who WANT this to suck. What a sad way to approach a film.

Fuck the low self opinion haters and low-lifes. Don't listen to them, it's useless.
We all know it's gonna be great and that's what is all about.
Watched the current trailer with the Smaug glimpse at least 20 times by now.
