no, he's definitely interesting, as were others, like that cave troll, and the huge flame guy from the first one. really didn't mind the cgi characters, i just hated the use of the cgi during the battles. it was like, close up of a dozen or so orcs that were actually present, then they do a wide shot with thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of cgi orcs, that all look the same to me from a distance. i'm not saying jackson should've had thousands of guys dressed and madeup to look like orcs, as that would be kinda impossible for the sake of staying on budget and schedule. but at least give me 50-100 guys that are actually there. i mean mel gibson had a few hundred guys dressed as scottish and englishmen while filming the battles for braveheart. and him just having a hundred, or few hundred, guys actually dressed up on screen at one time, made me believe that there were thousands of them going at it, as opposed to the actual numbers.

In many of the battle scenes there were actually hundereds of guys actually there. Not all parts of those battle scenes were cgi, many objects were indeed real parts of the set including the likes of a fallen Oliphaunt such as this.

I do see your point but it's hard to compare the likes of Braveheart's battles to the LOTR ones. The battle scenes to me had to be done with as much cgi used to emulate the intensity and scale that was portrayed in the books....and they succeeded beyond my expectations in this area.

I don't think the cameras will be warming up for at least a year...if not longer. I assume they're still writing... no calls for the local crews anyways. I've got a coupla friends who'll probly be working on it in some form or another so I hope to get some inside info when it starts to happen.
