Raimi to Direct and Jackson to Produce The Hobbit!

Written by Stephanie Sanchez
Friday, 10 August 2007

We’ve got a follow up to our story “Sam Raimi Possibly Directing Clash of the Titans” and it’s a doozie!

All indications from our inside sources are saying that while Raimi was seriously considering the Titans offer, he has a much bigger fish to fry and has possibly chosen to go in the direction of Middle Earth instead.

While we are being told that negotiations are still underway for the prequel and final deals won’t be reached immediately, Raimi is leaning towards directing The Hobbit as his next big project.

Where does this leave the legendary Peter Jackson?

All sources indicate that although Jackson won’t be back to direct, our source is telling us that Raimi is looking to helm The Hobbit with Peter Jackson attached to produce. Raimi has said in the past that he would not take on the project without Jackson’s blessing. Well, looks like he may have it!

I'm going to line-up at the theatre the second this deal goes through.

Still disappointed... It'll probably be really good but Jackson would've made a better film.

No doubt Jackson could do a better job but I'm still excited about this movie. Be interesting to see where they film it though. I know Jackson will push for it be be made here in NZ but you never know.

Personally, I'd rather have Jackson direct the film. He knows what he's doing when it comes to the LOTR universe. But Sam Raimi is definitely a solid director. I happen to enjoy Raimi's work. But as long as Peter Jackson's involved, it should be in good hands, with the exception of that flaming asshair Bob Shaye. I won't be lining up, cause chances are, I'll still be in school, but I WILL be catching this one in theaters.

If he has Jackson's blessing you best believe WETA's handling the effects which means that they're filming in NZ.

The more I think about this the more I get pissed. Even during filming of the LOTR I thought about how Jackson would handle all of the Smaug sequences. This sucks actually

I'm not concerned. I look forward to seeing what Raimi can do with it, if he is in fact the director.

It's not concern as much as it is "what might've been". Jackson would've made the better film.
