![]() Synopsis (from IMDb): Georges and Anne are in their eighties. They are cultivated, retired music teachers. Their daughter, who is also a musician, lives abroad with her family. One day, Anne has an attack. The couple's bond of love is severely tested. I'm so desperate to see this! Michael Haneke makes some incredible films, notably, Hidden and Funny Games. I never cry in films, but this looks as if it could get me going. There's something about old love which I find very touching. Critics have been hailing this and it looks incredible! I can't wait to finally buy it when it comes out on the 18th March! Has anyone seen this yet? My local cinema never usually shows foreign films, so I didn't get the chance

Haneke's The White Ribbon is mention-worthy as well, putting Funny Games to utter shame.

I liked it, but I feel they could have shaved 15 or so minutes off the runtime. Very good movie on heartbreaking subject matter.
I like the White Ribbon and both of Haneke's versions of Funny Games better than this. Especially his English language version, which I find to be one of the most hilariously twisted movies ever made.

I'm recording The White Ribbon on TV tonight. I'm hugely looking forward to it! I love Haneke and I've heard that White Ribbon is one of the best!

I just watched The White Ribbon tonight and found it to be OK. It wasn't on Funny Games or Hidden standard, as it was slow with little happening. However, it wasn't particularly boring and I enjoyed it. Just not as amazing as I was expecting.

Watched it today, my verdict: thoughtful and emotionally gripping, especially at the end. Haneke hits the spot again, he has just the right hand for exposing and portraying extreme emotions with stunning sobriety.
I liked White Ribbon more, but this is very memorable too. Could have been trimmed to 100 minutes only, but that's only a minor complaint. I don't know, why the Academy didn't nominate Jean-Louis Trintignant for Best Supporting Actor, he is equally amazing like Emmanuelle Riva. I would award Haneke for Best Director and his film for Best Picture as well. But we all know this won't happen, at least the Best Picture award. 9/10

Oh my. i finally saw this last night and for the first time ever I cried. I've never cried in a film before, of course I've had the odd tearing up but I've never released (except from in Brother Bear when I was about 10). Throughout the second half there were countless scenes where my eyes kept stinging. It was only until I was talking about the scene where Anne refuses water that I started welling up and I actually blubbed! It was crazy! This film completely touched me, it's heart-breaking to watch, immensely powerful and has acting to simply marvel. Emanuelle should've got that oscar!!
9/10
