Maybe the Ancient Ones didn't even wake up at the end of the movie. Maybe that was just the equivalent of a person half-waking, stretching and then saying, "Fuck it, it's too early," then tucking their head under the duvet for ten more minutes.

All things are possible in fiction; shitty retcons doubly so.

NB: I haven't even seen the film.
