Plus, there's always the possibility that the people running the show are just... wrong about the world ending if the Ancient Ones wake up. Where did they get that information from? Maybe the Ancient Ones didn't even wake up at the end of the movie. Maybe that was just the equivalent of a person half-waking, stretching and then saying, "Fuck it, it's too early," then tucking their head under the duvet for ten more minutes.

All things are possible in fiction; shitty retcons doubly so.
