I instantly fell in love with 15 year old Marek as he walked of the train and stepped into the filthy underworld of Prague. He became best friends with streetwise Dave and decide to dump all the pimps and go on their own in the teen flesh peddling business. This film sat in my head for days. I love when that happens, when a film effects me.

Regarding the title, It refers to a plant, which according to East Indian folklore, grows under the gallows from the sperm of hanged men.

Great movie, it has been a few years since I've seen it. If I remember correctly the directors follow up is also supposed to be pretty fucked up, maybe I'll look into that one tonight.

Welcome back mate, on saying this pretty much my first time back as well.

Really like Ms W's idea of turning this into a UG thread. Will be interesting to see what wonderful movies are introduced to me here.

Was good to see you elsewhere as well by the way.

Personally I stopped coming after the site change. Then once Ms W told me about here slowly sticking my head in until now.

Movie talk wise I would have to say to everyone here when you get a chance grab magGot Films' 'Our Devils Night', it is BRILLIANT. Just the whole look and feel of the film is so spot on.

Visitor Q, I saw you made a reference to the film Fat Girl. Such a brilliant movie. I'm totally in love with it. The ending was so outta nowhere. I never would of guessed it.

I am very interested in Catherine Breillat's films. I watched Anatomony of Hell and I have A Real Young Girl but haven't watched it yet.

Anatomony was interesting but I didn't like it as much as Fat Girl.. The actor was pretty good in here for being a Italian porn star. It was ok but I think I'm satisfied with one viewing. :)

I remember Visitor Q having appointed at some point to Catherine Breillat as a underrated director. It is more Visitor Q you dont you used to use as avatar a picture of Romance?

A ma soeur! is one of her best films, is full of interesting dialogues, as a curiosity actually the original name mean " to my sister ", so odious translations, right?

"Film is an illusion and is not based in reality fictitious, nor in chance, but in the work on which is based" ... or something like that was the introduction of Anatomy.. I remember when I started to see it I said ... that is Rocco Sifreddi?

Finally .. I would recommend check Parfait amour! One of her best works, in my opinion.

Parfait amour! is a great film.

Catherine Breillat IMO is easily the most underrated director when it comes to shocking and disturbing cinema. I almost never see her films mentioned on lists of these types of movies. She has a body of work that rivals great shock directors like Miike, Haneke, Larry Clark and the like. She uses real sex scenes (in all of) her films to make statements and isn't afraid to make them uncomfortable and/or shocking and at times vile. Her films aren't real violent, but she isn't afraid of thowing in a scene here and there to get a rise out of the audience.

If your a fan of shocking arthouse and haven't checked out her work, I can not recommend it enough. My favorite is A Real Young Girl, when I saw this there was very little info online and nobody mentioned the shock value. The cover of the DVD only had a small warning, so when I bought it and watched it I shocked at the level of sexual perversion.

I didn't see your post when I posted a minute ago. Anatomy Of Hell IMO is great because of the shock scenes, but yeah it is really her weakest offering and the message of the film is a bit of mess compared to her previous movies. She seems to have shied away from these types of movies after Anatomy Of Hell, I believe her last movie is actually a childrens film of sorts (go figure).

As I just stated A Real Young Girl is by far my favorite, no real violence just alot of sexual perversion. It is great IMO. Romance X is also great, I think you would dig that one if you haven't already seen it.

Speaking of French Cinema I'm going to watch La vie nouvelle (2002) by Philippe Grandrieux (Sombre) tonight. Has anyone seen it or his other film Un lac (200?

This is just an observation, but an extreme cinema group discussion thread might be helpful. Just saying.
