The summary that is doing the rounds is pretty accurate.

The season was lackluster and pales in comparison to Murder House and Asylum but I still enjoyed it somewhat due to Angela Bassett and Lange.

Hopefully Bassett returns for the next season.

Carnival theme confirmed for Season 4.

Meh. Not overly thrilled by the decision, and frankly the show could do with toning down on the camp-factor, which seems unlikely with this new revelation. Whatever, main thing is that it's better than the extremely lackluster Coven... here's hoping!

I think the Carnival idea could work. And I enjoyed Coven, not as much as Asylum, but I thought is was better than the 1st season.

I'm done with this franchise. Until I hear some reviews to the contrary, I'm going to assume three or four fairly solid origin stories early on involving the new characters or surroundings, three or four OK episodes where antagonists show up or character conflicts are cultivated, then the remainder of the season will be muddled in cheesy gotcha moments and poorly planned resolutions.

I couldn't believe how many times a full scene would involve nothing more than the witches walking down the street in formation to some odd tune or into a room to conclude a lethargic musical montage. They're far too worried about the style, which is ham-handed at best, but which exposes the shallowness of the substance. The beginning of each season start out with great writing, but they cannot finish a fucking thing. Worse, these strong beginnings lead the viewer to believe a strong ending can be possible, so the disappointment is that much more profound.

I dig the carnival setting. They could create some very unsettling imagery with this, but they need to tighten up the story after the sloppy Coven.

Still need to work my way through Coven. Can't get the will at the moment.

I too dig the carnival setting but I'm going to need more than Jessica Lange and some pretty visuals to sit through a full season. I loved the hell out of Asylum and the first season so If they could get back to that type of storytelling I will be very happy.

American Horror Story was never Breaking Bad but it was always, at the very least, competent when it came to building a decent, well paced narrative. Coven was boring as fuck, at least through the first three or four episodes.

It's Official: Get Ready for American Horror Story: Freak Show

Source: Ryan Murphy
March 24, 2014 Tweet43Share0

It was announced last week that FX's hit series "American Horror Story" would be adopting a carnival aesthetic for its upcoming fourth season, leading some to speculate that the season may be set around a "freak show," a la Todd Browning's 1932 horror classic, Freaks.

Today, series creator Ryan Murphy confirmed that the plan is to do just that, posting on twitter.
Previous reports suggest that "American Horror Story: Freak Show" will be set in the 1950s with Jessica Lange already confirmed to be returning (and said to have been practicing her German accent).

The series' third season, "Coven," featured an ensemble cast that also includes Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson, Frances Conroy, Gabourey Sidibe, Denis O’Hare, Patti LuPone, Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga, Lily Rabe and Emma Roberts.

EW states Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett, Evan Peters, and Frances Conroy are all back as performers Lange has rescued. Dennis O'Hare and Emma Roberts are in talks too. While I did enjoy Coven, Asylum is still the best to me too. Can't wait for Freak Show.
