I stayed up one night until about 3am and watched this with my brother-in-law. There was a strange kind of synchronization with the characters bonding experience and our bonding experience. Made me feel like a kid loosing his innocence all over again.

I just saw this and whilst it was slow and uneventful, the character development was near-perfect. I loved the bond between the boys and it does make you remember your childhood friends. The closing line rings so true, "I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?" Sad, but true.

Next to Shawshank, Stand By Me is my favorite King film. It takes you into the world of the 50's through a a grown man who is trying despreately to seek a thrill from his childhood and relive, I can completely relate.

it's all the more resonant since river died. i love stand by me. i hate how king's name gets downplayed for his more dramatic efforts, such as in stand by me and shawshank; the man write's characters as well as any contemporary novelist, which is what makes his horror all the more powerful. he understands that situations aren't as horrible if the characters are meaningless. king also has a knack for capturing nostalgia.

"Stand By Me"......This 1986 classic is a delightful film filled with humourous, poignant, and intense scenes. River Phoenix, Wil Wheaton, Cory Feldman, Jerry O'Connell, and Keifer Sutherland are all terrific in their roles and deliver spot on performances. They are why you should see this film. 'Stand By Me' is a movie that captures childhood in a poignant, non-candy coated manner that is dead on. Brilliant screenplay, terrific directing by Rob Reiner, wonderful location shots, special ensemble acting, and a great soundtrack make the movie. It is a genuine, inspiring, and refreshing film! Even to this day!!
