I'd say it's very relevent. COD is obviously still doing very well, but Halo 4 on the other hand, has already seen a big dropoff in multiplayer activity, and it's mostly due to the changes they made, to make it more like COD. It's also been shunned by the MLG circuit as well. Now it's not a failure by any means, but it's an example of a move to please the masses, and get a slice of that COD pie, backfiring.

Splinter Cell is another example. Conviction was one of the worst selling games in the franchise, because they were trying to cater to the shooter crowd. So they alienated their built in fan base, to cater to a crowd who didn't care for the franchise in the first place, and in the end appealed to an even smaller crowd, than they already had.

What I'm saying is all these different genres, are slowly mashing into one, and if people ever start to get sick of that "one"(TP and FP shooters), the industry is fucked.

With GH it's obvious that the standalone songs and song packs were absolutely ridiculously overpriced and people have a right to be upset, but I look at games like FPS and think that it's honestly not that bad. Like the new DLC for Black Ops 2 includes more than any other DLC pack Treyarch/IW have ever released (I'm fairly sure), and it's still the same price as any other DLC they have released. 4 new multiplayer maps, a new zombie map, and a new weapon. Not bad in my mind for 15 bucks.
I completely disagree here. I find paying $15 for a lousy map pack, is fucking obscene. It's very much like the GH problem with song packs. Especially, when a good portion of the maps, are just imports from older versions of the franchise.

Put it into perspective. Would you pay $60 for a game, with 16 maps, and no campaign? I sure as fuck wouldn't.

I'll admit it's still reasonable now, and I'm just as guilty as anyone else for buying extra content, but it's a slippery slope. If the trend continues, the content at launch is going to get smaller and smaller, and it won't be long before you're paying for every chapter of the game.
I totally get what you're saying but do you think we would be getting these huge add ons for something like Morrowind back in 2003 out of the goodness of their heart?

They've found something to make more money, and it's mutually beneficial to everyone. If you want extra costumes, or unlock a gun earlier than normal you can. Good for them.

I already do pay $60 for games where I don't play the campaign. Games like COD, Starhawk, and Need for Speed are just several in which I have never played the campaign on. I just have no interest in it. I get more lasting appeal from games like those through there online capabilities. I've tried the campaigns on them and I just don't like them that much. But games like Metal Gear Solid, Twisted Metal, etc... I play the hell out of the campaign and never even touch the online aspect, and I'll gladly pay $60 for them.

It just comes down to what you like to do and what you like to play. If I pay $60 plus dollars on a game, I usually make damn sure I get good use out of it, whether that be through campaign, multiplayer, or both.

Well, that's just the thing though. You ask any hardcore Elder Scrolls fan, and they'll tell you that things have gotten worse, as far as content goes. Morrowind, despite technical inferiority, was much bigger than Oblivion or Skyrim. The world's were bigger, and the content was endless, right out of the box. Now, we're paying to extend those experiences past the status quo 60-70 hour experience, whereas before it was already there.

It's smart business no doubt, but at the same time, it's risky, and could have big consequences down the road.

The word of the day is "complacency". Everybody is happy, until they're not. When they're not happy, what is the contingency plan? I don't know if videogame industry has one. To me, it just seems like they're feeding the demand, without thinking of the future.

I'll concede that the MP and SP markets are seperate entities, and I'm a little biased towards the single player experience. Personally, I don't think a strictly MP experience is worth $60, but that's just me. I realize there are legions of people who could care less about a campaign, and just want to hop online. In that respect, I don't really "get it". It seems cheap to me. Like when a franchise like Resident Evil releases a MP specific game, and scratch their heads at why it doesn't sell well. It's because they're not catering to their market.

All things considered, it's market specific. Like how a campaign in a Battlefield game seems like a half assed effort, when that's all you should be expecting. It's "Battlefield". A campaign is going to seem limited in comparison to the possibilties there are with the online capabilities, that made the franchise so popular in the first place.

I just think a lot of developers are getting their lines crossed, in trying to compete with one another, which is leading to this "sameness" of the entire industry. Everyone is borrowing from everyone, and it's all getting very bland because of it.

Like you said, it's very market specific. Games like COD do well almost solely based on MP, and games like MGS do well based almost entirely off of single player campaign. I wish there were more games out there that had both great MP and SP, but it just isn't the case (at least in many of the games I've found). Your right about Resident Evil as well. Games like that need to stick to their guns with what they are good at and what has made them successful, rather than trying to be something that they are not. Which by today's standards is almost unheard of sadly.

I'm playing Dead Space 3 and I'm at Chapter 6 ( after completing an optional side mission)

It's classic Dead Space through and through ( I was worried that Co-Op would ruin it) It's still the scariest game out there with second to none combat and I can't forget the sound!

The Necromorphs are extremely creepy(and ferocious) in their mummified forms, and the fact that later in the game they actually infected different alien species for you to battle is just more icing on an already delicious cake!

The only thing I'm still somewhat on the fence about is the weapon crafting. I appreciate the Dev's wanting to do this and the possibilities are indeed endless but it's pretty daunting at first....

It is getting easier and will definitely draw players into multiple playthroughs to create the ultimate Necromorph killing machine!

From where I read, that the weapon crafting was a confusing bitch and that the game has a lot of backtracking just to pad the game.
