80's mini series - BLOODY-DISGUSTING

Okay, I'm been trying to find a miniseries from the 80's, but haven't had any luck. It was based on a small southern town in the 50's(?). The movie dealt with race relations, had a crooked sheriff and a old man that was picking up hitch-hikers, killing them and buring them on his property. The sheriff finds out and is killed by the old man.

I passed right over that title, in a list of miniseries, and never checked it!
