These Subspecies movies kick arse. I have liked them for YEARS. I first was introduced to the series through the second one and then the third one and then the first one and then Vampire Journals and then the fourth one. Blame the likes of SKY for this [the way they aired them] and the late rental release of Vampire Journals and Subspecies 4 at the time. Excellent series so it is. And it has atmosphere that no other vampire movie could ever hope to have. The vibe you get from the Subspecies movies is one to remember.

I love them all, although part 4 was a bit of a let down from the previous 3...I think that was put out during the beginning of the Full Moon downfall, when they traded good (or at least decent) storytelling for the ability to churn out soulless crap by the dozens every month. I was actually impressed with the way Vampire Journals turned out. I was a huge fan of old school Full Moon and I always counted the first 3 Subspecies among my faves behind Netherworld (I've got some unexplainable guilty pleasure complex with that one, my absolute favorite Full Moon flick)

One of the things I like about this vampire film series is they shot this series entirely on location, the sets and culture made these films more epic in scale and it gives these films certain kind of style not found in other Vampire films.
One of my favorite films from Full Moon. Wish Band would express in doing another SUBSPECIES feature. |

Just recently got the boxed set collection of Subspecies, rewatched the original for the first time since initially seeing it when I was very young. Still holds up as a solid, visually solid film, Anders Hove is among the elite of vampires. I always enjoyed 2 & 3 over the original though, and plan on likewise revisiting them soon. I don't even think I ever finished the fourth and that was due to lack of enjoyment with it. Maybe time can change it for me.
Overall excited to also meet Anders Hove next weekend! Already met Denice Duff & Ted Nicolau from the film, so this shall be further awesome. |

Not too long ago I bought the boxed set of I-III.
Bleh. I thought Vampire Journals was much better. Radu just isn't intimidating at all. |

I love the first three films in this franchise. Very entertaining flicks, some of the best from Full Moon.
Part 4 and Vampire Journals are okay, worth watching once if you like the other entries.
