I thought Peter Jackson's 2005 King Kong was a pretty good movie overall. Sure, it has a running time that doesn't make it too friendly in re-watching it over and over, but I think Jackson just had a real zest for the material and I think it shows in the film itself.

I've never noticed any bad SFX in this movie. Honestly, I didn't like it when I first watched it. I made the mistake of watching it late at night on a small TV in standard definition. I bought the Blu-ray last year and I was just completely blown away by how awesome it was. It's reference quality material in sound and video, and Naomi Watts is very easy to look at for three straight hours. Never really thought of it as a horror film, though...

I thought it was mostly crap. I had totally lost interest after they left the island.
The insect scene was the only great thing about this movie. 4/10 |

I like this movie a bunch, despite the flaws. Sure, it drags a bit and it could have certainly lost some weight but there are some fantastic moments in this.
The spider-pit sequence is among one of my all time favorite scenes, with Lumpy's death to the Carnictis being my fav. "kill" of all time. The V-Rex battle puts me in monster bliss every time I watch it. |

"King Kong(2005)"....Peter Jackson's wonderful remake of the 1933 classic is a knockout!! Great special effects, beautiful cinematography, astounding art direction/production, and terrific directing by Jackson is evident. The movie is entertaining from start to finish. The solid screenplay is wonderfully brought to life by Naomi Watts,Adrien Brody, and even Jack Black (I really cant stand this gross/creepy guy..but he was "ok" here). Also loved seeing Andy Serkis, and his character of "Lumpy" is a hoot to watch. His performance as "Kong" is the icing on the cake though. I like that there is many different dinosaurs and giant bugs present in the movie, and some might think they were over the top, but they all work for the most part and add a little more excitement. The island natives in this version are so ugly, scary, and evil. These scenes add such creepy and intense atmosphere that I love. The wonderful music score, great costume designs, and wonderful special makeup effects all add greatly to the movie too. One of the best remakes/monster movies ever!!
10/10

No way brew.
I love the original. And although PJ's is very different in tone, it's an amazingly done remake. It's just breath taking, PJ is actually a huge fan of the original, and actually has one of the last surviving models of Kong that were used in the original. Of which I think there is 2, or 3 left.
