Suspiria (1977)

Black Swan is a pretentious, oscar-bait movie full of cliches. Suspiria is 'arty' but still an exploitation movie, at least it had no pretensions to be anything than what it was.

If Aronofsky is remaking this, it probably won't get oscars because it's a remake, but it'll be just more of the same pretentious drivel trying to be deep and meaningful like most of his other work.

(I'm a fan of Pi, mainly because of the score, but even that's overrated - like a dumbed-down/simplified version of Eraserhead)

I would disagree on all accounts, but there would be no end to this argument. I think you're sadly wrong and I'll just have to live with it. Shouldn't be hard.

The term "oscar-bait" is hilarious, keep it up. As is "arty". As is "overrated". As is "pretentious". I don't see how Black Swan was, in any way attempting to be showy about how talented the director and/or filmmakers are. Its an excellently filmed (hell, phenomenally filmed) character study about madness and obsession full of mesmerizing performances and subtle visual hints of insanity (as most of Aronofsky's films are, that is, about obsession).

Congratulations, you've used every cliche that's ever been used for a highly acclaimed film. Use some examples next time instead of calling something pretentious, because the term pretentious is pretentious, ya dig? I hate when something is targeted because it was successful at the Oscars.

Having said that... as talented as Aronofsky is, I'm not on board with this remake. Than again... I rarely am (and have even been surprised with many remakes of the last decade).

Mogwai.... before you go shitting all over this film, i suggest you give it a watch. A huge amount of people really love this film, so it's probable you'd like it too. Don't deny yourself a chance at a movie that you might end up really loving. My advice...don't listen to the crap people say, and just check it out yourself so you can make your own descision. If you don't like it afterwards, then you can rip into it.

Fucking nailed it mate, Sussssssspiria (the witch is in the tree) is my favourite Italian horror, mmm, along with Fulci's masterful City of the Living Dead. I first watched this as a naive 12 year old Mogwai and it made nish sense. As I've watched it over the years I've grown older and wiser and it still makes no fucking sense.
The plot is irrelevant (as is the case with every Argento & Fulci film, the acting is superfluous cos, let's face it, we came here to see stylish deaths and sumptious photography.

Thanks, mate. I love both 'Deep Red' and 'Suspiria' equally. Although I've got to say 'Opera' is way overrated. Some really nice touches and it's beautifully filmed with gorgeous locations but I find it to be a mess overall.

'Cannibal Holocaust' is possibly one of my top 5 horror films of all time.

'Don't Torture a Duckling' and 'The Beyond' are my absolute favorite Fulci films. 'City of the Living Dead' is solid though...
