Lon Chaney and his son
Boris Karloff
Bela Lugosi
Vincent Price
Peter Cushing
Christopher Lee
Donald Pleasance
Claude Rains (13/05/2012: Edit - T)
Glenn Strange
Peter Lorre (Who was believed to have asked Vincent Price, at Lugosi's funeral, "Should We Drive A Stake Through His Heart? To Be Sure?")

Honourable mentions to Abbot & Costello for their contributions to the Universal Monsters. Also Joel Hodgson, Michael J Nelson, Trace Beaulieu, Kevin Murphy, Bill Corbett, for making previous unwatchable films hilarious and entertaining!

Tip of the cap to Burgess Meredith for his roles in the original run of The Twilight Zone.

Boris Karloff. His Frankenstein's monster is second to none.

Also like Lugosi, and Chaney Sr.,...

Agree with your list. I would only add Claude Raines [he was great as the "Invisible Man"]

my definitive top 5 list

1. vincent price(da man)
2. donald pleasence(dr.loomis is forever etched into my memories because of what he brought to that role and countless other films like 1982's "alone in the dark"
3. christopher lee(i think i seen just about every one of his movies)
4. boris karloff(nevermind "frankenstein" his outstanding performance 1945's "the body snatcher" places him on this list
5. roddy mcdowall(the legend of hell house and fright night part 1&2 were amongst my favorites as many as there were lol as a kid)

why no chaney sr n jr, why no lorre, and why no cushing well as much as i respect all that they have contributed to horror and thei individual bodies of work i had to make some tough calls
