Default The Langoliers (1995)

I know this movie doesn't have a lot of fans, but I seriously think it's underrated. Although it's extremely long (being a mini-series) and has many slow spots, it does have a creepy atmosphere and a fairly good cast. The acting goes from bad to over the top, but I enjoyed the performances (Bronson Pinchot and David Morse are great). The plot is also fairly original.... based on time travel. And there's some psychic stuff in there as well. It's like an episode of Twilight Zone. I have to say I enjoy this quite a bit.

(Trailer is kind of crappy, though)

I haven't read the book but I heard that the mini-series stays very close to the book. In fact the book being a short story and the mini-series being around 3 hours in length, it would be hard for them not to include most of everything in the book.

The book/short story/novella was great.

One of my favorite Stephen King stories.

I remember watching this movie/mini-series with my uncle as a kid who is the one I can thank for getting me into horror. Anyway at the time I liked this film, not for the horror-factor though I mean hey I don't care what age you are it's hard to find giant CGI-ed cocopuffs scary. However the story line made you care for the character's involved, and there was actually a nice assortment of characters in the film. I found Mr. Toomey's character hilarious, and it was fun to watch him slowly go insane. Which brings to the real villain in the film...the passengers on the plane themselves: how would being isolated in a deserted area being chased by coco puffs take a tole on one's psyche? All in all it was a decent King Film, not one of his best but better than a lot. If I were to rate it I'd give it 4.5/10

I have to add my voice to the fans of this film. It's a slow-burner for sure, but, like a good stew, one worth waiting for. I remember getting attached to the characters, even the villains, and generally cheering everyone on to get back home. This is yet another overlooked classic.

I bought it on VHS not long after it came out, and had soon introduced several friends to its various charms (still have the VHS stored away). I should really get this on DVD, or Bluray if it's out on that. I've not watched it for a few years, and need to reacquaint myself with it.
