I'm not too familiar with horror movies from Mexico. The only ones I have are Satanico Pandemonium and Alucarda. I would like to order some good ones. Who are the good filmmakers down there and what are some good DVD recommendations? Thanky.

Here's some good ones: THE VAMPIRE THE VAMPIRE'S COFFIN THE WORLD OF THE VAMPIRES THE BLOODY VAMPIRE INVASION OF THE VAMPIRES THE BRAINIAC CURSE OF THE CRYING WOMAN CURSE OF THE DOLL PEOPLE SAMSON VS. THE VAMPIRE WOMEN THE MAN AND THE MONSTER CURSE OF THE AZTEC MUMMY Now, when I say "Good"...I mean "Fun"...just keep that in mind! They're not bad movies, just sort of hokey. But a good hokey. |

Uggg ... those final 4 Mexican horror movies that Karloff did were awful.
The movies from Casa Negra are pretty good. Not quite on the level of the Italian gothic horror of the 60s, but worthwhile. One director that I've liked is Carlos Enrique Taboada. I've really liked the 3 horror movies of his that I've seen: "Hasta el viento tiene miedo" (translates as "Even the wind is afraid" I think), "The Book of Stone", and "Poison for the Fairies". Only the last one has had a US DVD release. If you want to get technical, it's borderline to call it a horror movie. More of a magical reality, tragedy-tinged, coming of age story. But I thought it was quite good, as long as you don't go in expecting monsters or gore (like the moronic reviewer on the front page of the imdb listing). I really liked the directorial style putting you in the place of the girls - everything is shot low, and you rarely get a good look at adult's faces. And of course, there's Alejandro Jodorowsky. Only "Santa Sangre" could be called a flat-out horror movie. But it's certainly one of Mexico's best. |

Check out the releases from Casa Negra:
http://www.casanegrafilms.com/ That's pretty much all I know for Mexican Horror. I'd also like some info. |
