The Ring (1998/2002) - BLOODY-DISGUSTING

Well the japanese version came first in 1998 but in 2002 we had the US remake which I thought was fantastic. I am suprised there hasn't been a thread on this one so lets get some feedback going.

I also thought the sequel was great too which was a surprise.

"The Ring" was scary as hell. As for "The Ring 2"... for lack of a better phrase, it sucked.

I have never been more scared by a motion picture than when I saw The Ring (The original American remake).

When a movie is so powerfully frightening that it fucks up your ability to functionally sleep for over two weeks then it deserves some kudos.

I will always remember the period in my life when I was 18 or 19 and I kept getting the feeling that I would wake up in my room to the sound of white noise on my TV and then suddenly a well would appear and Samara would start crawling out of it and then walk toward me like a zombie and then crawl through my TV screen and kill me.

I didn't hate the sequel but it doesn't hold a fucking candle to Gore Verbinski's original.

I saw the original Japanese Ringu and I thought it was fairly scary and I enjoyed it but it was also lacking in production values. Verbinski's American remake is superior to the original Japanese one, in my opinion. I know there are a shit load of J-Horror loyalists on this forum, so I don't mean any offense by this... just my 2 cents.

BTW I wish Verbinski would get back into directing horror films... I think he has some serious talent with the genre.

I heard they're making a Ring 3, but I haven't heard much about it really except that it will be a prequel to the original movie. If they could get Verbinski or at least some other talented director to do it that would be fantastic.

Hideo Nakata is a decent director... but for some reason The Ring Two just didn't work for me like the original did. But it did have it's moments... like the well-chase scene at the end of the movie for example.

It's true but there's really not much known about it yet except that it will supposedly be a prequal to the original movie. We'll just have to wait and see.

Personally, I think they can pull off a successful 3rd movie. The 2nd one was kinda blah but since this is a prequal it might be entertaining and maybe even a little scary if they do it right.

I'm looking forward to it and I am going to keep my hopes up that it will be good.

The Ring was amazing, I remember when I first saw it and for a couple of days afterward I would look at my tv expecting to see something reflected in the black glass.

It will be interesting to see how the third plays out

Anyways I never was as scared by a movie as The Ring. I think it was mostly because of the "if you watch a video" your gonna die thing. And it never helps when the phone rings during the middle of it.

One of my very first posts...re did, I also re-did posts of others as I realized with Dead Girl....some I tried looking for, they but never showed up until later. It questioned my interests as far as searching things, which is one of the minor improvements BD should have fixed, like that weirdo Correctomundo was talking about on the new BD forum under Bear with us in whateverland.
