In thirty Years, What films from the Current Era (2000-Now) will be called Classics?
There's a thread similar to this that was started like five years ago. A lot has changed and it would be good to see what people think now.
The Descent 28 Days Later Saw The Ring Hostel The Devil's Rejects Inside Martyrs Eden Lake Shaun of the Dead The Orphanage Let the Right One In A Tale of Two Sisters Oldboy The House of the Devil High Tension |
I Saw the Devil

Martyrs
I Saw The Devil Let The Right One In. I don't see any of the torture porn type flicks being labelled classics. |
Father's Day, and other torrid Troma affairs such as Poltrygeist and the upcoming Nuke 'em High.
|
I think 20 years from now some kids will hear of and check out the following films from the last decade. (these lists are just a rough idea)
Most well known; Saw 28 days later The Descent The Hills have eyes Dawn of the Dead Final Destination REC Let the right one in Shaun of the Dead The Ring Horror fans will always love; Haute Tension Inside Martyrs The Orphange Trick 'r Treat Dark Water Them Dog Soldiers Cult films The Devils Rejects Human Centipede I'm sure films like Grindhouse, Wrong Turn and others have a place as well. |
These would be what I would consider classics in 20-30 years
Saw May House Of 1,000 Corpses Devils Rejects Let The Right One In I doubt it will be remembered very well but Id personally like to see Sweeney Todd become a classic as I think its the best Depp/Burton collaboration there is. |
Unfortunately, I suspect that 30 years from now what will be considered classics will actually be reboots of most of the films we list here today. :unamused:
But assuming I'm wrong . . . Dawn of the Dead (2004) The Descent 28 Days Later Saw The Ring Let the Right One In The House of the Devil I agree with Rusted on the torture porn type films with the exception of Saw. For some reason I see that one hanging on as a favourite of tomorrow's horror fans. There will always be those fans who dig anything and will watch everything named in the genre so films like Hostle, Inside, Martyrs, etc. will always have their niche. |
Just to add since the other guys have covered most.
Frankenweenie ParaNorman Pan's Labyrinth The Others The Mist Drag Me To Hell Session 9 Jeepers Creepers |
What about the Final Destination franchise?
Maybe not one I would place near the top, but I can see it showing up as one of those This-is-the-movie-that-got-me-interested-in-horror type films. We all have one or two of those films that may not rank high on thers' lists, but we hold in high esteem nonetheless. |
