Director:
Guillermo Del Toro

Cast:
Charlie Hunnam
Charlie Day
Idris Elba
Ron Perlman

"This project will give the Hellboy filmmaker the opportunity to create two worlds. The first is an alternate version of Earth in the near future, decades after a historic date in November 2012 when the first kaiju, a towering Godzilla-like beast, emerged from a hole in the Pacific Ocean and attacked the city of Osaka, Japan. The second is “The Anteverse,” another universe on the other side of that gaping portal, 5 miles below our ocean’s surface. Since the first attack, the rim has been “spitting out” a variety of gigantic monsters at an increasing rate, which then stride out of the ocean and begin destroying sea-bordering cities, like Tokyo and Los Angeles. In order to combat these monstrous, otherworldly menaces, the military developed the “Jaeger” program, which trains teams of two pilots to jointly operate massive, building-sized mechanized suits of armor and high-tech weaponry."

It ain't "At The Mountains Of Madness" but it's Del Toro making a full-on giant monster action picture. I'm down..

Director Guillermo del Toro's upcoming Kaiju honoring monster vs. giant robot clash has started shooting this past Monday. The news comes from an interview that Del Toro had with Wired. Asked what he was working on film-wise, he responded:

We start shooting next Monday [Eds. note: Nov. 14] on Pacific Rim, which is a gigantic production for Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros."

Describing the film, he said:

"We are working with actors that I absolutely adore. Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman. Itís really, itís a very, very beautiful poem to giant monsters. Giant monsters versus giant robots. Twenty-five-story-high robots beating the crap out of 25-story-high monsters. Weíre trying to create a world in which the characters are real and how it would affect our world politically, how it would affect the landscape if creatures like this really came out of the sea, etc."

'Pacific Rim' is set for theatrical release on May 10, 2013.

Yup. Can't wait. Way too far away, though.

Sounds awesome, looked around for some pics, found a few, but I wasn't so sure they were real.

I do wonder tho if as he's doing this he'll be taking notes for doing creature effects for At The Mountains of Madness

I remember hearing that ILM gave a really impressive creature effects presentation before Universal pulled the plug.

That's cool.

Well, hopefully this project will somehow get us closer. This can only help point to the potential of ATMOM to studio heads.
