Right now I'm considering the left one. Don't ask me why I just prefer it. I mean who wouldn't? Seriously.

Just sayin' if you don't like it I guess you don't like it.

I already have those two releases downloaded and ready for action tomorrow. Gotta sleep now tho, work in the morning :/

Even if it was released at a higher bit rate I guarantee it would sound almost identical. He probably recorded it at a lower quality, that's what I'm saying. Up converting something won't make it sound better. If he wanted it to sound crisp he probably would have used different equipment and different software. Lo-fi production is not uncommon at all and ultimately it will only sound as good as the source. It adds a layer of "grain" and noise to a recording that purposefully makes it sound degraded. I think the core production is just as good here as anything else he's done, it's just more sludgy

Like I've already mentioned I listen to albums as a whole, and just because a few songs might sound "better" if they had a higher quality doesn't mean the songs themselves make any more sense within the context of how the artist intended them to be. All of that aside, I think plenty of these songs can be enjoyed on their own merits.

But whatever, you should really listen to it. All of your comments about how much you love him kind of throws me off that you're willing to put this aside because you don't like that it wasn't overproduced to sound radio ready :\

Yeah you should definitely listen to it.... i mean... i don't think it sounds "shitty" it just has a very hazy and dirty sound. The bass still pounds plenty and a lot of the lougey/jazzy stuff he does in a lo-fi way compliments his lyrics that often focus around drug use (although he clearly isn't just using drugs to have fun anymore, a clear feeling of melancholy is present even on some of the more "fun" tracks), depression, and lingering insomnia. This is my favorite hip-hop release this year so far. It goes on for too long, sure, but after listening to it a few times I'm beginning to feel that every track is somehow essential to the overall experience. There's a ton of features too, although a lot of them are kind of hard to tell when they actually come in. If it was jumping around from track to track with better/worse production it would feel even more long than it actually is...

I think some of my favorite hip-hop albums have a super lo-fi production quality to them... just because something is listened to to 320KPS or even FLAC doesn't mean its going to clean up the original tape recordings. Enter the 36 Chambers is a great example.
