Two pretty American girls are on a road trip through Europe. In Germany they end up alone at night with a broken car in the woods. They search for help and find an isolated villa. The next day they awake to find themselves trapped in his terrifying makeshift basement hospital along with a Japanese man. An older German man identifies himself as a retired surgeon specialized in separating Siamese twins. However his three "patients" are not about to be separated, but joined together in a horrific operation. He plans to be the first person to connect people via their gastric system, in doing so bringing to life his sick lifetime fantasy "the human centipede".
BLOODY DISGUSTING: According to IMDB this is your first major role, how did you end up in HUMAN CENTIPEDE?
ASHLYNN YENNIE: IMDB is correct this is my first major role in a feature film. I went to a film and television conservatory and after graduating was cast in small tv roles and commercials. My manager asked if I wanted to audition for an international film which was controversial. I said submit me and let’s see what happens.
BD: How did you meet Tom Six?
AY: I actually did not meet Tom until the fitting in Holland. I auditioned for Ilona and she emailed the tapes to Tom who cast me without actually meeting me in person.
BD: Did you read the script before you took on the role?
AY: I knew what the story was about but I actually had not read the script until after I signed the contract. My whole process of auditioning was very fast. I auditioned on a Tuesday, had a callback Thursday and signed the contract on Friday.
BD: How was the film pitched to you?
AY: I had no idea the concept of the film until I met Ilona at my first audition. I read the synopsis of the film and then had the option to stay and audition or leave. Me being the curious creature I am had to find out what this was all about! I talked Ilona’s ear off for about 20 mins asking her every question imaginable. I kept saying “how are you going to make the “centipede” really attached?”
BD: Tom was telling people at Frightfest that he had to lie in order to get the movie made, what’s you’re experience with this?
AY: They were always very honest with me but I can definitely see why some crew may have been off put by such a bizarre story. Ashley, Aki and I were not allowed to talk about what the centipede would look like. Even our costume lady, Rochelle, kept asking us what kind of “suit” we would be wearing! Needless to say she was shocked as was everyone the first day we filmed the centipede. Tom goes for shock value and that is why he was so private about the film. It’s his baby.
BD: Tell me about your character…
AY: I play Jenny in the film. I based Jenny of a bitch I knew in high school…just kidding, but not really☺. Jenny has no concept of mortality, people wanting to hurt other people for no reason or that anything bad could happen to her. She is naďve to real life. I loved playing her because she is opposite of who I am, she is passive and let Lindsay(Ashley) take care of her. She would scream and have tantrum and then at moments in the film you see her just give up.
BD: How do you prepare for such an uncomfortable role?
AY: I did aloooot of jaw exercises and lip presses before filming. Haha…kidding. I prepared for the role emotionally and physically by just letting myself go into that crazy world of Dr. Heiter’s and all his madness. We shot almost the entire film in sequence, so that definitely helped all of us dive deeper into our characters.
BD: I couldn’t possibly be in your position for more than 2 minutes, how hard was this to film?
AY: Some days were harder then others, but really the only time I was uncomfortable was the stair case scene. That was a lot of pressure on one jaw☺
BD: How were you “really” connected? How was the movie magic achieved?
AY: We had an amazing SFX crew! They destroyed our faces every morning and enjoyed every minute of it. All I can say is Tom had an idea in his head, gave a blue print to Rob and Eric and they collectively created a human centipede. Absolute Brillance!!
BD: Have you seen the movie? What were your thoughts?
AY: I saw the world premier in London last month. First, I was amazed at the amount of people who came to see it! I was just as curious as all of you to see the “centipede”. I was shocked and surprised… and I filmed the thing! Haha… It is one of those films you just have to see. It is horror at it finest, Tom truly is an amazing director.
BD: Would you say you were lucky being at the end and not in the midde?
AY: I think any position is a tough one to be in… the biggest concern was making sure Aki did not back up suddenly… that only happened once☺
BD: Was it odd getting to know both Ashley and Akihiro, what did you talk about before filming? How do you prepare for such a weird role?
AY: Getting to work with Dieter, Ashley and Aki was an experience I will never forget. We are all fearless actor’s who are not afraid of a challenge. Aki, Ashley and I bonded over gauze and fake blood! ::smile:: As actor’s we a constantly putting ourselves in foreign or awkward positions, whether it be for a role or in real life…I mean we all love drama right?! So you just buck up, smile and say let’s make a movie…oh, and I will be attached to your ass!
BD: Are you familiar with David Cronenberg?
AY: I love the fact that Tom’s work is being compared to Cronenberg’s work. It is very true with this film, beauty is destroyed, human fear is exposed and there is a little infection mixed in. All very close to the genre that Cronenberg has made his own.
BD: When people see this in a theater, what do you want them to expect?
AY: I want people to go into the film with an open mind. It is truly a beautiful film that has the right amount of disturbia and excitement plus who doesn’t like a little ass to mouth action… Haha.
HUMAN CENTIPEDE can be seen at the forthcoming Screamfest Horror Film Festival in Hollywood.
