While at the San Diego Comic Con this past July, Bloody Disgusting's BC caught up with SORORITY ROW stars Briana Evigan and Margo Harshman, who joked a bit about their roles in Summit forthcoming remake, which arrives in theaters September 11.
BLOODY DISGUSTING: First I want to ask about the poster, because it’s, uh, “eye-catching”... is this a Photoshop job, or did they really just pile you girls on top of each other?
Margo: They really piled us, we all crinked up our necks.
BD: Was there any sort of pecking order, or debate over who had to get squished on the bottom? That’s you, right?
Margo: Yeah that’s me, I’m blonde in the movie. They just told us: “You first, now you now you now you.”
BD: Can you talk about your characters? You haven’t seen the original so you wouldn’t even know if you were taking on the persona of one of the original girls...
Briana: That’s true, we should watch it now that it’s done.
BD: You should! It’s a fun movie.
Briana: Done (laughs). I play Cassidy. I’m kind of like... I have the good morals, I want everything to be good, I’m totally against what everyone else is doing. I’m nice, serious, and I’m badass! (laughs). All of the above.
Margo: I play Chuggs. She enjoys the... finer things in life... OK, she’s a slut. (laughs)
BD: So you die.
Margo: Hey! You don’t know that.
BD: (laughs) I do now! You just said she drinks and has sex!
Margo: I might make it through! No, she’s a funny girl. She has some funny lines.
Briana: And she nails the funny stuff.
BD: And did you both get the roles you went in for? I know a lot of times with these ensembles a girl will go in for the nerd and they’ll want her to be the bitch, or whatever...
Margo: I think we all got the ones we went in for... I went in for Chuggs.
Briana: I actually got an offer to play Cassidy.
BD: Now you’ve both done horror stuff before, Fear Itself (Briana), Simon Says (Margo)... how does this compare gore-wise to what you’ve done in the past? Without spoiling anything, was it messier?
Briana: Oh yeah, I forgot I did Fear Itself. That was a really quick shoot for me. I also did Ravenous, [editor’s note: this film is now called Burning Bright], the tiger film. But that’s a suspense thriller, not a horror film. That was my favorite thing I’ve done, it was a really meaty role. But this is the bloodiest I’ve ever gotten though. Other than the tiger gash in my leg on Ravenous.
Margo: The bloodiest I ever got was Simon Says, I was covered head to toe. And I got bloodied for this other movie called Rise, and From Within. I think this is probably my favorite shoot though, it was all encompassing, even off set it was amazing, great people. Pittsburgh was great, I can 100% defend Pittsburgh.
BD: You guys kept mentioning the humor before, what kind of humor are we talking about here? Something like Scream, where you’re winking at the audience? Or just more general humor?
Briana: It’s like Mean Girls, only more, because it’s R. Really nasty, bitchy... it’s stuff like “Oh my god did she really just SAY that?”
Margo: I took my mom to the screening the other night and I had to apologize to her afterwards. She’s like “It’s fine, I’ve heard it all before.” But yeah, it’s just really raunchy, dirty jokes... and it’s shocking, the deaths are and the comedy is.
Briana: The comedy and the horror really work well together in this film.
Margo: And the cast. Amazing cast.
BD: Speaking of the cast: Carrie Fisher. Did you get to work with her a lot?
Margo: Unfortunately, not a whole lot.
Briana: We have a couple of funny scenes with her. She’s great with a gun.
